What is copyright?
Copyright: the collection of rights granted to the author of a piece of work
Different types of Copyright Licenses
Public Domain: software that isn't protected by copyright laws because either the copyright has expired, the creator donated it to the public domain, or the work was created using public money
- Example: Classic literature
Freeware: copyrighted work that you can use, copy, or give away for free
- Example: iTunes
Shareware: copyrighted work that you can copy, share, or use but for a limited time
- Free Trials
All Rights Reserved: a license that allows the purchaser to use the software according to the details spelled out in the license agreement
- Any store selling software has an all right reserved area
Open Source: software that includes the source code with the idea that someone can improve it
