Wilson Creek News
Manhattan School District 114
December 2023
We've made it to the end of another calendar year. There are so many wonderful and exciting things happening at Wilson Creek! We appreciate the opportunity to work together with you to support your child as he or she learns and grows here. December is going to be a fun and busy month at school. We look forward to sharing the magic and joy of this time of year with all of our students!
Please stay tuned for additional reminders from your child's teacher about classroom events and holiday spirit days in the coming weeks.
Thank you for making time to meet with your child's teacher for Parent/Teacher Conferences. We had many classrooms with 100% participation! We are grateful for the strong support that our students and staff receive from parents in our district. It is part of what makes our district so wonderful and Wilson Creek a great place to play, learn, and grow!

Winter Recess Reminder
Our teachers are sure to have recesses take place outside whenever possible. Our district policy for K-5 uses "feels like" 15 as a threshold for decision-making. Decisions are made about outdoor recess based on the weather conditions. Please be sure your child is dressed to spend up to 20 minutes at a time outside daily. If you need gloves or hats for your child, please call the office. We're happy to help.
When it snows, students do not bring snow pants for outdoor recess but may do so in the case of a planned snow play event with their class.
Notes from our Nurses
As flu season begins, our goal is to prevent widespread illness in school. Please keep your child home if he/she is experiencing symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, cough, and sore throat. Your child may return once he/she is 24 hours symptom-free without medication.
Remember, prevention is the key! The best way to prevent illness is with a good diet, plenty of rest, and most importantly, good hand washing. Hand washing is the best way to prevent bacteria/viruses from spreading and to keep your kids from getting sick. Dirty hands that touch eyes, noses or mouths can spread bacteria and viruses. The first line of defense against germs is hand washing!
When we return to school in January, we will begin collecting the dental forms for those who have not already turned them in from kindergarten, second grade and any new-to-our-our district students. Thank you!
