Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
October 3rd-7th
What we are doing next week:
- Science: We will be finishing Lesson 1 on sound and starting Lesson 2 on pitch. On Friday they’ll be a short quiz on Lesson 2.
- Ms. Shipp's Social Studies: On Monday we will be reviewing for our quiz on Tuesday. It will cover Ferdinand, Columbus, and Leif Eriksson. Then we will begin learning about the Columbian Exchange with a quiz on Friday.
- Ms. Thurston's ELA/Math: In math, we are starting Factors and Multiples. In ELA, we will be continuing with Inferencing, context clues, and publishing our personal narratives. We will then start writing Spooky Stories.
- Ms. Harris' GT ELA/Math: This week we will start Multiplication with factors and multiples. Timed tests will start on Thursday (more information below). In ELA, we will be reading "Shrewd Todie and Lyzer the Miser" in our Junior Great Book series. The test will be on Friday. In writing, we will publish our personal narratives and begin work on our spooky stories. On Monday, Mrs. Speasl, the district technology integration specialist, will come and show the students how to use "Tweeter" in class. This is a fun, safe way for students to "Tweet" to each other about what they are doing in class without using Twitter. It will be run through their google accounts.

Supplies Needed
After assessing everything that was brought in at the beginning of school, we are in need of plastic sleeves (page protectors) and Clorox wipes. We use the wipes daily to prevent sickness, so those go QUICKLY. If you have any you'd be willing to donate, we'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Other Information:
- School Beautification Day: Come help make our school beautiful on Saturday the 15th from 7-9 am. The whole family is welcome!
- Timed Tests: In my GT math class, we will start multiplication timed tests on Thursday. Every Tuesday and Thursday students will have 3 minutes to answer 60 multiplication facts. Students will be encouraged to study their facts nightly and know them quickly. As they pass each test, they will earn a piece of an ice cream sundae. When we are done, we will have an ice cream sundae party to celebrate all of their hard work.
- Book Orders: Book orders are due Friday. You can go to www.scholastic.com and use our class code of GKCDN to order online.
- First Quarter: First quarter ends on October 18th. Please be checking parent portal for updated grades.
- Fall Festival: The Fall Festival will be on Friday, October 21st from 5:30-8 pm.
Previously for fall festival each class made a pumpkin or wreath to auction off as a fundraiser. This year, each grade level will be putting together a basket of items for a silent auction. The 4th grade selected a 'Fort Mill' themed basket with gift cards to local shops. Below is a sign up genius for purchasing gift cards that will go in the baskets. Please note the very last sign up is for cash donations and no donation amount is too small! If you have any questions about the fall festival baskets please let me know. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090f49aaae2ba6fc1-4thgrade/4880320
