Noteworthy
Newsletter for Members of the Waikato Literacy Association
President welcome
Welcome to my first Noteworthy at the helm.
Firstly, let me introduce myself, I’m Sandie Haddock!
If you are new to the WLA - welcome aboard, If you are re-joining fasten your life jacket, this year is exciting and we are ready to set sail!
Just remember to share out this newsletter to the rest of the staff.
I've been involved with this wonderful organisation for a few years now (when it was known as the Waikato Reading Association) and have really enjoyed being an active cog in the wheel. Last year was huge for the Waikato Literacy Association - with the running of the NZLA conference. This challenged all previous NZLA conference models and we successfully took the speakers to the people, by turning it into a roadshow. We were writing the 'guidebook' and had many challenges along the way.
If someone had asked me 10 years ago about putting my hand to assist running a conference - I think I would have run for the hills! It shows how growth and mindset change, as well developing a great group of friends along the way. If you think you would be keen to join the team and organise some great literacy events - do flick us an email. Also if you have a great idea for a workshop or venue.
I have recently started in the role of Scholastic Territory Manager for Waikato-Bay of Plenty region. Previous to this I have been a primary teacher with the majority of my time based within the Matamata-Piako district. Our family is based in Morrinsville and are often found with a nose in a book, writing emails to people late in the night or helping to share the love of reading by popping into schools throughout the area.

A huge thank you for her many years of leadership with the WLA.
Let me introduce the WLA committee for 2018

When I first started in the Waikato Reading Association (less than 10 years ago)we sent out photocopied newsletters, mail outs and phone calls, now we are managing social media, e-newsletters, online accounting and text messaging. We have definitely evolved as a Council and our crew consists of some very busy people who work very hard(unpaid) for an organisation that they strongly believe in.
