What's Coming Up
Please notice: Friday, October 2 the students will NOT be coming to school. Teachers will be using this day to help further their online coursework and materials.
We (elementary schools) will be sending home the students' chromebooks (grades 2-5) to PRACTICE PROCEDURES that will be used if school closure is required later in the school year for inclement weather of COVID-19. Your student WILL have an activity or two to complete. The activity will be online via Seesaw.
PLEASE let me know as soon as possible if you do not have wireless capability at home for your child to get online with their chromebook.
Caring and Getting Along
Math
We also have been working on multi-step word problems. We have done many of these in class together practicing the steps to go through to see what we know and what we need to find out. This can get frustrating for some, so we have discussed the importance of going through the steps with me so we can practice.
We have visited multi-digit addition and subtraction this week.
Keep practicing multiplication facts!
English Language Arts (ELA)
Library looks a bit different this year ~ Covid style. The students go to the library website, Destiny, to put books on hold. The librarian then will check the books out to the students and bring them to the classroom. So far, I have not put limits on any books, but soon they will only be able to check out one graphic novel (examples: Dog Man books), one chapter book, and then a nonfiction or fiction book (or another chapter book). They will need their chapter book at school to read during our independent reading time. This is not saying they cannot take them home, but please have them go back and forth with it so they can continue reading from one book. Our goal is to read from beginning to end and be able to tell someone about the plot.
Spelling
We write them a few times throughout the weekend and discuss the meaning of each word. It would be great if you can have them practice some at home or to have them use the words in sentences.
You can find the list on Seesaw in the inbox.
