UHMS Rising Phoenix
Uplift Hampton Middle School Week of August 5, 2019
A Word From Administration
Hello Phoenix Tribe!
Few things are more powerful than human connection. It gives us strength, comfort, love, and happiness, and makes us feel at home in the world. When things get tough for us, and they will, we can depend on our friends, confide in our family, find solace in our partners, and lean on one another. This will help us right ourselves and inspire us to keep on keeping on. We offer hope and healing to the Phoenix scholars and families who need us most. And you’ll see: When we harness our humanity, we can work miracles. We hope you have the opportunity to spend time with your love ones this weekend and hold them tight. We are all living on this planet together – let’s make it a little kinder for everyone. We are wishing you all a fantastic first week of school. We are proud of how our team has come together to support one another. We are in awe of you. "Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." - Princess Diana
With love, admiration, and gratitude,
Priscilla, Chataqua, Christine, and Jabez
UHMS Learning Together
Deep Into Learning!
This is getting intense.
Walk-Through Focus
Close Reading: All core classrooms should complete a short close reading during SLA
Routines and Procedures: Practice quick transitions and 100% scholar engagement
Classroom Environment: A welcoming physical environment that supports student learning, facilitates physical movement, and avoids safety hazards. We are specifically looking for: classroom libraries and reading areas, college corner inside the classroom and on the door; Big Goals, and joy (scholars and teachers interacting, scholars engaged and joyful). When administrators walk through your room, please do not stop instruction.

Important Announcements and Information!
Duty Schedule: The fall duty schedule is in the UHMS Staff Expectations document. This document is addition to the Uplift Staff Handbook and does not replace the Uplift Staff Handbook. You are responsible for the information in both. Review as much of the UHMS Staff Expectations as you can before Monday morning. We will highlight some of the expectations on Monday. Link is below.
Carline: We need ALL HANDS-ON DECK for afternoon carline. Every employee is expected to be at afternoon carline for the first two weeks of school. All classrooms teachers are to report directly to your classrooms at 7:25am to greet advisory scholars.
Attendance: At 10:00am call each scholar’s full name and have them stand up or raise their hand. If a scholar is not on your list hand write their name on the bottom of the roster. Place your attendance in a visible place to be picked up. Write the number of scholars physically in a seat on your white board and circle it. It is imperative that attendance is taken correctly during the first days of school. The obvious impact of students not being in school is they are not learning and moving forward to graduate from college. There is also a financial impact on our school as 70% plus of our funding comes from the state based on number of students in school each day. It is important that you take attendance correctly each day. Encourage all students to come to school every day. If you need help, please reach out to someone on the leadership team. Leave no scholar uncounted!
Add Slips: All scholars physically present in your class must be on your class roster or have an Add Slip. Please call the office to report any scholar who is physically in your classroom but is not on your class roster. Do not send the scholar out of the classroom. Someone will physically come to pick up the scholar and escort them to the correct classroom. Add students with an Add Slip to the bottom of your roster. We will continue to add scholars until classrooms are filled.
TEAMS: This is the portal for absence reporting and getting subs. Please save this link to your computer! https://uplift.tx01.teams360.net/servicecenter/EntryPointSignOnAction.do

Annual Training Reminder – Mandatory Online Training and Alice Active Shooter Training are due Monday, August 5th by the EOD. All mandatory online training modules have been updated on BlackBoard under the course title “Uplift Annual Training.” Do not miss these deadlines!
Use It or Lose It: All employee Vacation and Local Days will be lost if not used or donated by August 31. HR reminder:
· Vacation and Local Days do not roll over.
· State Days (we receive 5 per year) do roll over
Employees can donate the soon to be lost time to the Shared Time Donor Program with the below link.
