4th Grade News
In the fourth grade classrooms, teachers flip between teaching a unit of science, and a unit of social studies. This month, if they are learning social studies, the students are memorizing the 50 states, their locations, and their capitals. If they are learning science, they are learning about how the human body functions.

6th Grade Sock Hop
Everyone is lining up to get their sundae. The music turns on over the loud speaker, everyone almost over powering the noise. Activities round each corner. Than limbo started, it’s amazing how flexible people are! Slowly it happened, the dancing began, with people being docked. The ice cream sundaes where the best and the pop was all solo by itself [cups where red solo cups ;) ]
6th Grade Toy Drive
The 6th grade celebrated Heart Month in a fabulous way! Congenital Heart Defect Awareness is subject that the class discussed. 1 in 100 children are born with CHD. The 6th grade classes joined together to raise awareness for CHD and teamed with the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and American Family Children’s Hospital to bring some joy to those undergoing hospital stays. The classes did an incredible job showing their support filling multiple boxes with toys! It was the most that our Toy Drive has raised in 6 years! Upon delivery, they were blown away with the gifts that our students raised! Way to go 6th graders! They truly have big hearts!

Scoopie Night
By: Max
On March 5, Northside had a Scoopie Night at the Janesville Culver's. The teachers were transformed waitstaff! Mrs. Musgrove, Miss Hamilton, Mrs. Nelson, Mr. Berndt, Mrs. Lalor, Mrs. Sanchez, and Ms. Mahoney were some of the teachers were helping serve the food. Students put their name on the Scoopie Night slip and turned them in at Culver's. The classroom with the most slips, wins a custard party! Mrs. Kingsley’s class was the winner! The school receives 10% of the profits from Scoopie night; we raised $544.63. The next Scoopie Night is May 1st and Northside will be getting 20% of profits that night, so try to come out and enjoy custard while supporting our school.

Lisa Wheeler Visits Northside!
By: News Crew
Lisa Wheeler is an author who visited our school. She loves to write and has been writing for a long time. She talked about how her books have to go through a long editing process before they get published. Her first book was rejected over 300 times before it got published! She loves mammoths and brought some puppets with her. The puppet, Fiction, helped her tell a story called Mammoth’s On The Move . Max said “She was almost like a ventriloquist because you couldn’t see her mouth move while using the puppets!”. You could order her books before her visit and she autographed them for you!

Wear Blue on April 6th for Autism Awareness - Spirit Trophy Awarded to the grade/wing with the most Blue!
By: Hannah
Hi, Northside students, families, and staff! Normally I report on an event that has already happened, but this time I am reporting on something special coming up. As you may know, Autism Spectrum Disorder is a disorder that some people have. According the the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is estimated that 1 in 68 children in the United States have Autism. This can cause social and communication challenges. These students also have many talents and are a lot like us! Some people you may know that are believed to have characteristics of Autism are: Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Andy Warhol. Some living famous people that acknowledge being on the spectrum are Jerry Seinfeld, Temple Grandin, Dan Akroid and Satoshi Tajiri (the inventor of Pokeman).
April 2nd is World Autism Day! Since we will not be here because of spring break, we'll be raising awareness by wearing blue on Friday, April 6. Make sure to break out your blue clothes to help raise awareness about Autism.
*Addition to article by Mrs. Henschler. Student Council would like to start a new tradition and will award a "Traveling Northside Red Hawk Spirit Day Trophy" to the wing/grade that has the most students that wear blue in support of autism awareness. The trophy winner will be announced at the assembly on Friday!
Movie Review: Ratatouille
I love this film!!! The animation is so cartoonish and the deep theme of this story “anyone can cook” is inspiring for people who want to cook. I think they could’ve done a little bit better job with adding more cooking scenes because it takes a long time for the story to process with the theme (cooking).
I do like the music they play in the movie because it’s sort-of like a romantic-Paris type of theme and I just think it calms you down. Whenever you watch it you just get...hungry (I ate cheese while watching it). Now, I do warn you that there is one bad word they say, for some reason, and I just thought that was unnecessary (especially for a G-rated Pixar film).
There’s only two things I didn’t like about the film (the brief language, and the lack of processing into the theme). I do enjoy the humor, the lifelike animation, and the inspiration it brings kids and adults about “anyone can cook”. I give this movie an...A. They could’ve done a little bit better job with the process of the theme (which spreads throughout the movie) and the brief language could’ve been cut from the movie. The animation, humor, and the inspiration saves this film from getting a C-.
I will see you next time for my next movie review which is...The Karate Kid (the original, not the reboot with Jayden Smith and Jackie Chan)
