Message from the Principal
Standing Bear Families,
New phone numbers: We just received updated phones and the contact numbers for Standing Bear will be changing. The new main number will be 531-299-2140. You will then be able to select an option such as nurse, attendance, etc. (this will be set up soon). We hope that this will be more efficient when you are trying to reach a staff member or if you have specific questions. The old number will continue to ring through for a limited time while we transition.

Student Placement for 2020-21: As a staff, we will be working on sorting students for next year sometime in April. This is a very detailed and specific process to make sure classrooms are balanced and students are placed according to their strengths and needs. Therefore, I will not be taking requests for specific teachers for next year. You definitely know your child the best, so if there is a situation, concern, type of teacher, etc you feel your child would benefit from, please send me an email with that information. We will place them to the best of our ability and take into consideration your email. I appreciate you trusting us that we will place your child in the best possible classroom. Fortunately, the staff at Standing Bear are all high quality instructional leaders and caring teachers. If you wish to send an email to me regarding next year, please send that before the end of March so we can have that information when we start the sorting process. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
We have already hosted our Kindergarten Roundup for 2020-21 school year and we had a fabulous turn out! I was thrilled to see so many families and some very excited little ones! If you know of any families in the Standing Bear area who have kindergarten age students, please let them know they can still come up to school to register for next year or call the main office with questions. Welcome class of 2033!
I hope that everyone has enjoyed some extra time with family during these snowy days!

Kid's Heart Challenge Program!
Message from our P.E Teacher Ms. Lensch-
We are kicking off our Kids Heart Challenge program (formerly Jump Rope for Heart) on February 4th. Through the Kids Heart Challenge, we are going to talk about three things:
1. Habits to keep our hearts healthy
2. How we can help others…Meet Finn
3. Encourage everyone to take the challenge to adopt one of three healthy habits
This year we are excited to welcome the Heart Heroes to our school. Over the next few weeks, the characters will share important messages about keeping their heart healthy, building self-confidence and helping others.
The first step is getting your student registered and taking a challenge. When they register, they will receive their free wristband and join the Heart Heroes!!!
1. Click Here register your student for our Kids Heart Challenge
2. Choose your challenge
- a. MOVE MORE
- b. BE KIND
- c. BE READY
3. Earn your free glow-in-the-dark Heart Hero wristband
4. Download the Kids Heart Challenge app to bring the wristband and any Heart Heroes to life.
Your student can earn the Heart Hero characters and additional gifts by asking friends and family to make donations in the support of the American Heart Association.

Advise for Staying Healthy....
Help Your Family Stay Healthy
Wash your hands: Children and adults with the flu can infect others before their symptoms even show up. Washing your hands regularly with soap and water helps prevent the spread of germs.
Cover your cough and sneeze: Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, this helps stop the spread of germs.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth: Doing so can spread germs from your hands.
Practice healthy habits: Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food. Having a healthy lifestyle is one of the best ways to fight illness.
PARENT PORTAL
Important Information from Standing Bear
Building Security
We welcome all parents to visit Standing Bear Elementary. For the safety and security of our students and this building, we require that all parents get a visitor badge from the office when going past the main entrance. If you enter through the cafeteria doors, please also stop by the office if walking your child to their classroom. Thank you for taking the extra steps to help ensure our school is a safe place to learn.
Drop Off Zone
We ask that you please continue to pull all the way down to the second crosswalk if possible (by main front doors). We can then unload around 10 vehicles rather than 5. Also, we have some very excited and responsible "Ambassadors" to assist with opening your car doors for easy drop off.
School Messenger
We will be using the School Messenger (Robo call or email) to communicate this year. Please make sure to contact the office if you need to update your contact information.
Birthday Celebrations
We ask that you contact your child's teacher to determine if there is a good time to bring in birthday items. We ask that all items be non-food items, due to student allergies. Thank you!
