NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Teacher Appreciation Week is here!!!!! We like to be different...and we are following the lead from the National Education Association on our timing, since Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday, May 9th. Please check out the WHEN AND WHERE TO BE THERE section above for each day's appreciation!!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!!!!!!
As we close out the academic year, lets make sure we continue to push our students each day!! As evidenced by ISTEP testing, our students get a little out of sorts when the scheduling is thrown off. Also, as the weather gets warmer (hopefully soon!), we know our students get more active. How are we adapting to that activity? Repeating our selves over and over to sit down and stop talking? Or...designing hands-on, interactive tasks that allow them to move and talk. You can decide the direction of the movement and conversation with how you plan your instruction. See below in the DIY section for resources and tools!
Long observations will wrap this week. My expectation is that we continue to push our students daily!!!! All observations will be completed by May 12th and all artifacts due into SFS by May 12th. Final summative evaluation conferences will be held between May 15th and June 2nd. Please know that evaluations will not be completed until we receive final ISTEP and IREAD 3 data back from the state. I will be available next week between 8:00-8:40 or 4:00-5:00 pm if you have artifacts questions. Please email me if you would like assistance.
The Leadership Team will be meeting next week to discuss planning for the 2017-18 SY. If you have ideas, please relay them to your SBLT rep for discussion. We will be discussing the master schedule, staffing, and Title I budgeting. Items will be shared out to you as completed. Also, I will be sending out a Google Form next week to get feedback on the PD we will offer for next year. I want to make sure it is aligned to your needs and the vision of our school. Stay tuned for that link next week!!
Just a reminder about the IPS Summer Professional Development schedule. I have attached for your review, as I know we are in the process of planning our AWESOME summer vacations!!! Please note the TZ Institute is Mandatory for all. Make sure to register for it on WisdomWhere....and you will be paid your hourly rate for attendance.
I have also included the flyer for the HS Closing Community Meetings. The next one is Monday, May 15th at the Haughville Public Library. This is an opportunity to be a part of the discussion about next steps and get more information. We will be sharing this with our parents as well, since this will impact our current families as they transition up to high school.
