Kinder Review

November 20, 2015

Told through the eyes of the class...

We learned about Native Americans. We learned that they dance around fires. We learned that they eat fish by walking in the water and grabbing it. They play. They talk to the spirits. They are the original Americans. They also pray. We learned about the holiday Thanksgiving. They eat Turkey on Thanksgiving. The Indians and the Pilgrims had the first Thanksgiving.

In Letterland we learned about Mr. U. We learned about Mr. O. We learned about Golden Girl. We learned about Eddy Elephant.

In math we learned that when we count up we get a bigger number, that's adding. We learned about greater than, less than, and equal to. We learned about adding two more. We learned about counting one back. Your number gets smaller.

Literacy Corner

This week in Letterland we reviewed the letters Pp and Gg. We introduced the students to Eddy Elephant (Ee), Golden Granny (double g) and Uppy Umbrella (Uu). We introduced the students to the sight word play, while reviewing all the words taught thus far. Please review these words with your child each night. They will definitely see them in most readings that we have. We continued to discuss Native American. We also learned about Thanksgiving.

Next week we will review all Letterlanders taught thus far, as well as sight words. We will continue to discuss Thanksgiving, telling each other the things that we are most thankful for.

When we return from Thansgiving break, we will learn about the Letterlander Kicking King (Kk). We will also teach the students about the digraps -ck and -ng. The class will learn the sight words little and big. We will begin our thematic unit on Winter Celebrations that are celebrated by different cultures in America.

Math Lab

This week we continued to review counting, more than, less than and equal to. With counting we have been counting to 100 by ones and tens. Please count with your child nightly. We introduced the students to addition, while completing a variety of activities to practice. We learned that when adding, our number gets higher after putting two or more numbers together.

Next week we will continue to work on counting and adding. There will be no new skills taught next week.

When we return from Thanksgiving break, we will continue to work on addition and counting.

Climbing Up This Mountain (Counting by 10s up to 100)
ADD 'EM UP! (song for kids about adding +1 up to ten)

Parental FYIs and Reminders

This was a great week for the Boosterthon FunRun. Please start collecting any donations made to your child. All donations are due Thursday, December 3rd. We definitely had a great time running our laps. With all the pledges made, we have raised enough money for a new playground at RRES!!! YEAH!!! Please make sure all checks are made out to RRES Pit Crew.

I know I say this every week, but it is very important that all students remain on task during lessons, and don't talk while instruction is being given to the class. We have plenty of time where the students can talk to each other, during instruction is not the time. Please talk to your child about the school and classroom expectations.

I have enjoyed meeting with each and everyone of you! I look forward to working with you all for the remainder of the year to make sure that your child learns everything that is needed in kindergarten.

Please be on the look out for a sign up genius concerning our Winter Celebration in class. It will be held on Friday, December 18th. We will definitely need volunteers to help with the program. If you would like to volunteer, please make sure that you have filled out the for for background checks so you are able to do so.
