Purpose
November 29, 2022 Regular Board Meeting
Student Representative Report
Hailey Rykal, Student Representative, shared that many elementary students are still enjoying the new MAPE schedule and are becoming involved in their school’s after school choir. The Wit & Wisdom ELA curriculum continues to be challenging, but they do feel that they have begun adjusting to the rigor and duration of the lessons. Teachers have implemented new classroom management strategies to help with student engagement. The middle school established a Principal Advisory Committee, which Hailey was able to meet with. Students are happy to see that the Voyager’s Program is back in full swing, along with field trips, and hosting the Veteran’s Day ceremony. They are also pleased with a recent schedule change that allows for work time at the end of the school day. High School students enjoyed their week-long break, are settling into the second quarter, and have begun the winter sports season. Some highlights for the high school include on-site chiropractic care, the Harmonics Super Show, and the Wire Choir attending a State Music Convention in Madison.
Showcase a School
Chippewa Falls Middle School
Derrick Kunsman, Chippewa Falls Middle School Principal, and Carly Rubenzer, Social Emotional Interventionist, presented a PowerPoint titled Cardinal Market. Ms. Rubenzer shared that the Cardinal Market has replaced the Weekend Kids Meals program, but the market is still partnering with the Feed My People Food Bank. The market started out in Ms. Rubenzer’s office, but is now housed in a large office space with wooden shelves (built by middle school tech ed students), two refrigerators and a freezer. Students are able to come to the market on Thursdays and Fridays to shop for their own groceries. The market has been very well utilized. In October over 1,200 lbs. of food was sent home with students and had over 90 shoppers in one week. The middle school students shared testimonials with Ms. Rubenzer which demonstrates how important the cardinal market is for them and their families; click here for more details.
