Geaslen selected Executive Director of Inclusion
Dana Geaslen has been named as the new Executive Director of Inclusion for the Anacortes School District. Geaslen’s responsibilities will include oversight of the district’s special education programs, mental health support, and nursing program, as well as play a key role in advancing the district’s equity work.
Geaslen, current Executive Director of Student Services with the Edmonds School District, comes to Anacortes with a wide-ranging background in Washington schools, with experience both in the classroom and at district-level leadership positions.
“I very much appreciate Dana’s experience in working with small and large school systems,” said incoming Superintendent Justin Irish. “I believe her background, communication style, and leadership skills will nicely complement our district team.”
Geaslen was selected from a pool of highly qualified applicants for her training, experience, and commitment to an inclusive learning environment. She takes over for Fran McCarthy, who has accepted a position with the Northwest Educational Service District. A recent restructuring of the position allows the district to place a great emphasis on equity work. Geaslen will transition between Edmonds and Anacortes over the summer, officially beginning her position in Anacortes at the beginning of August.
“I am excited to join the team in Anacortes, and especially continue the district’s work toward equity and inclusion,” said Geaslen. “I am committed to an “all means all” philosophy and will continue efforts to bridge our work with all of our students’ needs.”
