Staff Shout Outs
K-2nd has done a tremendous job in implementing the Units of Study. We had a walkthrough from the District Office and received very positive praise...Below are the areas they have been working...
- Libraries are visible and organized.
- Word Walls are evident at accessible to students.
- Reading Mats for K-1 and 2nd grade reading response journals are used daily during Independent Reading.
- Mini Lesson with Active Engagement, Link, Mid Teaching Point, (10-12 minutes) and Share
- Guided Reading plans are in place...this is where we will take our next steps in examining the lesson components.
- Partner reading and Independent reading are implemented daily
- Students are loving to read!!!!

I hope everyone has stayed safe a warm these last few days. When we welcome back our Raccoons, we need to be aware that they have had lots of ups and downs. Many of our families struggle tremendously when they can't work. Please keep an eye out for any needs and let myself or Angela know how we can help.
CISD Strong Shirts
A teacher at Creighton Elementary designed a shirt for our district. You may go online (using the link below) and purchase a shirt. They will be delivered to Rice. The deadline for ordering is January 16th.
Valentine Treats:
We will have Valentine's treats in homeroom classrooms on February 14th from 1:30-2:30. (PK times differ).
MLK Parade
3rd and 4th grade students will be invited to walk in the MLK Parade...Project Hope on February 10th. Permission slips will be sent out soon. Please collect these slips and turn completed forms into Karyn. Staff are invited to attend as well.
Author's Celebration
On February 8th from 5:30-7:00, we will have our 1st School Wide Author's Celebration. Below are the details of the events:
Library-Writer's café (students in 15 min sets A, B, C, etc.)-Mr. Gasper MC, 2 teachers at doors to close for performances. Teachers will nominate students to read. Please email Malinda names of students. Each classroom should be represented.
Cafeteria-PK-1: Read and Draw, 2-4: students will be given interesting pictures and then write a story.
Grade Level Hallways-Each grade level sets up a writing gallery in their hallway...parents leave sticky notes of positive praise.
Music-Roll a Story/sightword (set up on tables)
Art-Write your sight words (sand/paper plates)
Gift of Time
February is coming...and that means a special treat from the PTO and Admin. Our Gift of Time will be at Pie in the Sky. Each team will get to meet there for breakfast (7:30-9:25...pick your students up from specials at 9:25) and spend some time with each other. Dates are below:

We are excited about this month's Health Fair. This event is FREE to all CISD employees and their families.
Employees will need their CISD ID badges for check-in.
Entry prizes will be given to employees who check-in with their badges!
Badges will need a barcode in order to be scanned for attendance purposes.
