Veterans Day Celebration

Please join us in honoring our Oakdale Community Veterans this Veterans Day with a reverse Veterans Day Parade on Thursday, November 11th from 10:30-10:50 am. Please invite your family members, neighbors, and friends who are past and current service men and women of all branches of our Armed Services to join us on this special day. Our students and staff will be lining the Oakdale drop off and pick up lane to welcome our honorees as they drive through our cue.

On this day all members of the Oakdale Community of Learners will be wearing red, white, and blue. Please talk with your Tiger about the veterans who may be in your family or circle of friends to invite them to our special event! Our 6th grade students hand wrote thank you notes to the veterans whose names were submitted on the survey link from previous Friday e-Updates and newsletters. They should receive those notes next week.

If you cannot make the event, we will again be recording the parade and sending a YouTube link later that same day to share with family, friends, and relatives.

* In case of inclement weather, we will send a school messenger email and text message by 9:00 am to alert families that the event will be cancelled.

5th & 6th Music Program

Please join us on Monday, November 15th, at 7:00 pm at the Westside Middle School Performing Arts Center to hear our 5th and 6th grade students perform their music program. We are excited to welcome our new music teacher, Mr. Parker Christensen, to his first elementary performance with Oakdale! We look forward to seeing you there!

5th Annual Turkey Trot

Back again this year is the 5th Annual Turkey Trot. Since its inception, this annual event has brought in over 500 boxes of food, toiletries, and cash donations to help support our Westside Food Pantry. Although the students get excited about the race, the goal is to teach students to help others during this time. Food, toiletry, and cash/gift card (to purchase perishable food) donations will be accepted the week of November 15th.

Please see the flyer below for information regarding this year's Trot. We are again allowing parent visitors this year as it is an outdoor event. However, please be cognizant that there will be NO PARKING on property during the event. We utilize part of our drop off lane and parking lot for the race. Additionally, the race lasts just a short time and students will be returning to their classrooms for instruction the remainder of the day.

However, if you would still like to view your student's grade level race, please park in the church parking lot or in the neighborhood and view the race from the soccer field. Be on the lookout for our Turkey mascot getting the students ready to Trot to victory!

Tiger Pride Art Contest

Hey there, Tigers! It’s time to show your school spirit and your creativity. Please draw/color/paint your very best picture that shows how you feel about being back together in-person at school. The winner of this contest will have his or her artwork posted on the Online Directory page for the 2021-2022 school year and will be highlighted on our Community Club Facebook Page! An honorable mention winner from each grade will also be selected. All students received a submission form this week. You can also download a form below. Good Luck!

Please submit your original COLOR artwork to the school office by Tuesday, November 23rd.

Recess will be held outdoors, except when extended exposure to the elements is inadvisable or when it is determined to be otherwise unsafe. Students will not have outdoor recess when either the air temperature or wind chill factor is 10 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

Holiday Assistance

It’s hard to believe but the holiday season is right around the corner. As part of the Westside Community Schools family, we are fortunate to have some groups and organizations that are generous in many ways, especially when it comes to helping children.

Each year, several churches in the community, community service clubs, and individual donors offer to help students whose families may be experiencing some temporary financial setbacks due to the tough economic times. These groups often donate a food basket, clothing and/or gifts. These items are meant to assist you in what you are already providing for your family.

If your family is not receiving assistance from other organizations, we are here to provide

support. If you need assistance during the holiday season, please contact Mary McPadden, School Psychologist, at mcpadden.mary@westside66.net or 402-408-8880.
