IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 8TH GRADE FAMILIES

It is time to begin preparing our 8th grade students for the high school registration process. Selecting high school courses can be an exciting yet overwhelming process; however, the staff at JMMS and JHS will provide your child with the support and guidance needed to make the appropriate decisions to ensure a successful 2022-2023 school year.


Please refer to the steps and timeline below:


  • Step Two: Parent Information Night at Jackson High School - Wednesday, January 26, 2022 Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Program begins promptly at 6:30 p.m.

  • Parents will review high school scheduling guidelines, state testing requirements, course offerings and graduation requirements.

  • Parents will have the opportunity to speak with high school counselors, administrators and JSA and JAGS representatives after the program.


  • Step Three: Teacher Recommendation Day - Friday, January 28, 2022

    • Students will meet with their teachers individually; teachers then submit course recommendations in our internal online system.

    • Recommendations are based on academic performance, work ethic and standardized test scores.

    • Questions regarding recommendations should be directed to your child’s teacher(s).

    • The registration form must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to school on Thursday, February 3, 2022.


  • Step Four: Course Submission/Registration Day - Thursday, February 3, 2022.

    • Students MUST have their high school registration form with a parent/guardian signature on this day.

    • Students will meet individually with their high school counselor to finalize course selections.

*It is extremely important that the students abide by the registration deadline. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s school counselor at JMMS.

  • Attention 8th Graders interested in applying for JSA: (Jackson School for the Arts)

    The deadline to apply is January 27, 2022. Are you someone interested in Art? Dance? Theater? Language Arts? If so, this program is perfect for you. Apply on the high school (Art) website or by clicking here! If you have more questions regarding JSA, contact Mr. Poetter or stop by room 154.


  • Attention all 7th and 8th Grade Students: Track and field is coming up and sign ups are now available! Please see Mr. Poetter if you are interested. You can also sign up by clicking here. We will also have a student informational meeting on Wednesday, January 19th from 3:00-3:30PM in the cafeteria at JMMS. Please contact Mr. Poetter or stop by room 154.


  • MASKS REQUIRED ON BUSES: As a reminder, face masks still are required on public transportation, and school buses are considered public transportation. This is a Centers for Disease Control order issued by the federal agency. It can be found here.


  • Tardies to school: Consequences start for students that accumulate four tardies to school in a nine week period. If students are being dropped off to school please make arrangements to have them here no later than 7:45 as first period tardy bell rings at 7:50.



  • Chromebook Loaners: Please continue to encourage your child to charge their chromebook at home each night in order to be ready with a full charge for the next day. We are lending out 50-60 loaners a day. Also, please remember that consequences start when students accumulate four loaners within a given nine week period. We appreciate your help with this!



  • Middle School Athletic Tickets: If you are a winter sport athlete here at JMMS then games during winter (boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling) are free for you.

    If you are not a winter sport athlete, you need to go online and purchase an online ticket through our Jackson Local Schools Box Office at the following link: https://www.jackson.stark.k12.oh.us/domain/1751

    See Mr. Fisher or Harvey if you have any questions.


  • As a reminder, the safest way for a student to depart the building is on a school bus or via parent pick-up. Should you choose to allow your child to walk from school, please remind them of the importance of following all traffic laws as they walk from the building and be respectful of others' property. Thank you for your assistance with this!

ATTENTION 8TH GRADERS - WASHINGTON DC TRIP MEETING

Welcome to our Jackson Memorial Middle School Washington D.C. Trip. We are very excited to provide this educational opportunity for our Jackson 8 th grade students. Traveling Classrooms is our partner agency that will host this field trip. They have hosted tours for 35 years as well as have worked with Jackson School district for multiple years. They are excited to organize another successful Washington D.C. trip for your 8th grade student!

Date of Trip: May 12th ,13th , and 14th , 2022


Registration for the Jackson 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip

All sign-ups for the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip will go through our partner agency, Traveling Classrooms. Jackson Middle School does not accept any payments.


All further communications for the trip will resume on March 11, 2022. On this date, students will bring home their Jackson 8th Grade Washington D.C. Forms Packet including the roommate selection form and medication forms.

RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

Jackson Local Schools Backpack Food Program

We are pleased to be able to offer The Backpack Food Program, in partnership with RiverTree Jackson. This is a service for families in the Jackson Local School district with students in K-12. The goal of this program is to send home a variety of easy, ready-to-eat meals and snacks for your child to have over the weekend. There is absolutely no cost to our families to join this program. The bags will be delivered to your child’s school weekly, and sent home with students on the last day of the week that students are in school, usually Fridays.

Bear Hugs

BEAR HUGS is a FREE resource offering clothing, shoes, toys and other household needs, available to Jackson Residents. They have items available for infants through adults. People may set up a private "shopping" time or can take advantage of pop-up open hours, listed on Instagram @jacksonbearhugs. There are no stipulations for proof of need.
