Wrangler Weekly
Week of November 14, 2022
Message from Ms. Bratton, principal
One more week until Thanksgiving Break! Today we celebrated Veteran's Day with a beautiful ceremony. Thank you to our Student Council and their sponsor Mrs. Trevino for all of their hard work in putting this together. Retired Master Sergeant Jason Seibel was our guest speaker, and we enjoyed performances from band, choir, orchestra, and dance team.
We have had lots of students (and some staff) down with Flu A. Please know that Ms. Keith, our amazing nurse, will contact you if your student is not feeling well. Students also can use the phone at lunch if they need to contact you as they are not to use their phone during the day.
EIGHTH GRADE PARENTS:
Permission slips for Rising Rangers (Dec. 1) went out today in social studies classes. These need to be completed and returned by Wednesday 11/16 to SS teacher. Again, Rising Rangers is a special event for 8th graders to visit SVHS and see all elective choices prior to completing course selection for next year.
And a final reminder for 8th parents -- Advanced Academics Night at SVHS is Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 PM. See details below because the more you know, the easier the planning will be.
Go Wranglers!
Ms. Bratton

TYPING PRACTICE -- a necessary skill
IMPORTANT PRACTICE FOR ALL STUDENTS:
This week your child was given access to Typing.com.
Students will utilize this site during Wrangler time for typing practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
As you are aware, district Unit Assessments and the STAAR test are given online this school year; this includes writing the essay.
Next year, the PSAT will also move to an online format.
Typing practice is one way that we can help to prepare our students. The great news is your child can also access their accounts from home from Classlink for additional practice (link found on Comal ISD webiste).
Parents, please encourage your students to use this resource to increase their fluency in typing.
GT Trade Show - Wednesday and Thursday Nov 16th-17th
Advanced Academics Night - Wednesday Nov 16th
This event will help navigate the four year plan that is required for all 8th graders. If your student is in Honors or preAP classes now OR if you anticipate your student enrolling in a course for college credit in high school, you should attend.
Important information on the differences between on-level and honors and preAP and AP and Dual Credit and UT OnRamps will be provided to help you and your student match up the type of program with not only their learning style but also their after high school plans.
SV teachers AND students from each advanced class will be available to answer questions about anything and everything -- What is the course about? How has it helped you so far? How do you manage this class and band (or sports or dance or cheer)? How much time do you spend studying for this class?
This is a once a year opportunity, and we cannot recommend it enough that you put this on your calendar. Eighth grade parents AND students should make every effort to attend if you are even considering preAP/honors/AP classes for 9th grade.
Presenters Needed for SBMS Career Day - Friday Dec 2nd
On Friday December 2, SBMS is hosting our annual Career Day from 8:30-11am. We are excited to share the many different career opportunities our students could have in the future. There is a future for every student, and we want to help them realize it.
Would you like to share your career with our students? Do you know someone who would love to share their career with students?
Please complete this form (SBMS Career Day Presenters ) or contact Vera Borg at vera.borg@comalisd.org if you would like to help make an impact on the futures of SBMS students.
Congratulations to our Wranglers of the Week!
