PD Survey Data

Based on the Paraprofessional survey that was completed this month, we were able to gather data on the types of PD opportunities you would like support with this year. Below you will find a brief description of the PD as well as dates, and registration information for the different sessions that are in addition to district professional development days.

Google Suite Overview

This session is to provide you with tips and tricks regarding Google Classroom, Calendar, Google Drive, and more. You will have time to drive the session and ask questions in order to have a better understanding of how all of these apps and extensions work together to help enhance and organize your day while supporting virtually.

Hapara

Hapara is a Chromebook Teacher Management Tool that helps classroom teachers coordinate, manage, and track student workflow in Google Apps for Education. It enables teachers to organize their students and their assignments, track their activity and progress, as well as create a personalized environment across different metrics.

Learning Ally

We have recently acquired Learning Ally through a grant funded by the state, to create equitable access to students in need of Audiobooks and additional reading resources. Learning Ally allows teachers and students to download audiobooks from a collection of over 10,000 books ranging from grade levels K to 12. Teachers can assign books to students that are needed for instruction and personalize the student’s collection with books on their reading level. Students can also download books of their choice and find a variety of genres with new publications. Learning Ally is available for all New Brunswick students regardless of whether or not they have an IEP or 504 plan.

Google Read and Write

Read&Write offers a range of powerful support tools to help you gain confidence with reading, writing, studying and research, including:

• Text-to-speech to hear words, passages, or whole documents read aloud with easy-to-follow dual color highlighting

• Text and picture dictionaries to see the meaning of words explained

• With speech-to-text, dictate words to assist with writing, proofreading & studying

• Word prediction offers suggestions for the current or next word as you type

• Collect highlights from a text in documents or the web for summarizing and research

• Create and listen to voice notes directly inside of Google Docs

• Highlight specific words to obtain meanings and translation in a different language.

PDF Reader Using Read& Write

Many of you have been asking for an extension called Kami. Although Kami is great, many aspects of it are not free. Thankfully we have our own PDF Reader that allows us to do all that Kami does and we have a full subscription for it.


With the PDF Reader you can:


  • annotate any PDF by adding text, freehand drawing, shapes
  • highlight any pdf and collect highlights in a separate document
  • highlight and create vocabulary lists
  • leave comments and feedback, in which students can reply
  • use text to speech and the screenshot reader to hear the PDF being read to you
  • use speech to text to annotate or to leave comments
  • can now use the EquatiO toolbar along with the PDF Reader
