By popular demand - this will be a work session toward your parent involvement policy and school parent compacts. Come and go as you would like. Bring copies of your current parent involvement policy and school parent compact so we can look at ways to make them more engaging with families and linked to student learning.

*Alamo Colleges will be bringing their Mobile Go Center which is their mobile bus that you can request to come out to your campus/district. They provide information on how to prepare for, apply to, and fund a college education. You will have the opportunity to visit inside the unit.

They provide this service to the following counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr and Wilson.

Free Education Week Webinar: Helping Children Succeed Through Family Engagement

Research shows that when parents are engaged in their children’s learning, students succeed. Educators often need support in helping families integrate into local school communities, where they can learn about the education practices and policies that impact their children. The challenge is figuring out the best methods for building these relationships.

The philanthropic foundation Carnegie Corporation of New York commissioned the Global Family Research Project to create a challenge paper on the history, current practices, and future potential of family engagement. In this free webinar learn about the five high-leverage areas identified in the report: attendance, data sharing, academic and social development, digital media, and transition points.

The Corporation invited four nonprofit organizations to explain what success might look like based on their experiences in creating successful models, showing how others might do the same.

Summer Food Sites

Is your district hosting a summer camp or summer program for kids in a low income area?

The San Antonio Food Bank is look for summer food sites.

Program Information

Operates June 3rd - August 23rd

Site Requirements

Eligible sites are those that serve in low income areas or those that serve specific groups of low income children


Sites should be easy to reach by foot, car or public transit.

Meal Friendliness

Ideal sites will have tables and chairs readily available, kitchens in which to set up or clean up meals, refrigerators to store left overs, and restrooms for kids and staff to use. Special consideration will be needed for site located outdoors.

Site Activities

Sites should offer educational, enrichment, and recreational activities. Sites are the actual locations where meals are served and children eat in a supervised setting.

The San Antonio Food Bank is a non –profit who is an approved sponsor by the state to operate the program. The sponsoring organization is responsible for overseeing all program operations, administrative and operative costs and the production and serving of meals to eligible children at participating meal sites. The sponsoring organization signs program agreements with eligible partnering agencies such as churches, libraries and community centers interested in signing up for the program to help serve meals to children in need. This helps increase access to nutritious meals for children in need and help close the hunger gap.
