MCHS COMMUNITY SERVICE
Service Learning, It's The Sundevil Way!
Sundevil Way Guide to Community Service
High Schools have a close relationship with their community. Mt. Carmel is not an exception. We rely on our community to support our programs, provide opportunities for our students, and to create a positive climate to live and learn. It is vital that Mt. Carmel students seek to be positive members of the community, for the good of the student and for the good of all in the community.

Is there a community service requirement for graduation?
Mt. Carmel High School does not have a community service graduation requirement; however, you will likely need community service hours to report for your college applications. Many colleges/universities conduct a comprehensive review of the applicant and consider community service as a component. You also might be asked by a teacher to complete community service, as part of your class (most likely civics).
How do I track my Community Service Hours?
Sample Community Service Log
Above is a sample community service log that you could use to track your hours. However, it is always a good idea to obtain a letter directly from the organization where you volunteered. We have seen colleges request verification of community service hours, after students have submitted and reported information on their applications.
Learning and Growing from a Community Service Experience
Colleges & Universities like to see you do several hours within one organization and really grow and learn from that one experience, as opposed to a few hours with one organization here and there. Community Service is ALSO a great way to develop skills and experience that you can share on job applications.
