Principally Speaking
Today marks the midterm of quarter 1. You can view your student's midterm progress in each course by logging into the IC parent portal. Midterm grades are not a part of the student's permanent record. They are meant to give the student and parent an indication of a student's progress midway through the quarter. Should you have questions, praises, or concerns about your student's progress at this time, please contact the teacher. Our teachers are happy to help and give specific feedback in order for our students to become their best. There is plenty of time for students to make improvements.
Please vote for our school to win the Tools for Schools grant sponsored by Old National Bank. See the article above and click the link to vote. You may vote one time per day! Vote for us every day! We could do so much for our students and staff with $1000 - $5000.
Thank you for your help, and as always, I am blessed to serve your students, this community, and you in the role of principal.

Character Focus for September/October - Responsibility
noun, plural responsibilities.
- the state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one's power, control, or management: We must accept responsibility for the decisions we make.
- an instance of being responsible: The responsibility for this mess is yours.
- a person or thing for which one is responsible: A student has a responsibility to take care of his or her cell phone.
- reliability or dependability: Bill exercised responsibility when completed his assignment on time.
Have You Checked Your Student's Character Progress on PBIS Rewards?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior schoolwide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement. This intentional focus on positive reinforcement is creating and maintaining a positive school climate for the students and teachers.
Now, how does PBIS Rewards help with that?
PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere for meeting behavior expectations. These behavior expectations are defined by the school then communicated and taught. So, when your child displays the behavior that is expected, they are recognized for it. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the school’s PBIS store.
How does that benefit you, the parent?
As a parent, you can monitor your child’s progress and stay engaged with the PBIS Rewards Parent App! Download it for free on Google Play, the App Store, or Amazon Apps. Adding your child is simple. You’ll receive an email or letter with a QR code from your school. Open the PBIS Rewards Parent App and scan this QR code. If you have multiple children using PBIS Rewards at their school, you will be able to add each one separately.
Once your child is added to your PBIS Rewards Parent App, you will be able to see how many points they have earned, which the teacher rewarded them, and how they’re spending their points. The App also has a convenient way to respond to messages sent by your child’s teachers.
PBIS Rewards is helping us create a positive climate in which every student can learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The PBIS Rewards Parent App is a great tool for you to stay connected and engaged with the PBIS initiative.

The Nutrition Club
The Nutrition Club provides supplemental weekend food for children at North, South and the Middle School each Friday during the school year. We all struggle at some point. The goal of this program is to ease a bit of the struggle. You are welcome to sign-up at any point during the school year. The food will be sent home in a plastic bag that can fit inside a school backpack or be carried. You only complete one form per family. List all of your children that you would like to participate. Each child in your family will receive their own cinch sack or bag on Fridays throughout the school year. This program is the result of the generosity of the Danville community!

Cummins Behavioral Health Partnership for School Based Services
How Can the Partnership Benefit Students and Families
- School personnel and Cummin's staff are able to quickly identify needs that students may have.
- Cummins staff are located at the school and work hand in hand with teachers, school counselors, parents, and students.
- Parents/guardians are consulted each step along the way and are active participants in planning and carrying out treatment.
- Most services can be provided at the school or in the home, making it more convenient - and they are available year round.
- Services are strictly confidential and no care will be provided unless the parent/guardian gives permission.
All we ask is that you become actively involved in your child's care. When parents, school, and behavioral health professionals combine their knowledge, amazing things can happen!
