January 2014 Edition

Zion Youth News

HIGHLIGHTS FROM DECEMBER

HELLO 2014!

I pray that in the midst of this cold and blustery weather you are staying safe and warm. (Even if only in your hearts!)

One of my favorite parts of beginning a new year is taking time to reflect on the year that's past. Maybe you've had a lot of joys and successes. Maybe you've had more lows than your heart could handle. Whatever your or your family's case, it's good for the heart and soul to reflect on them. If you haven't yet, I hope you'll take time to reflect together as a family after reading this!

Wherever your 2013 brought you, may you know that 2014 is a year of new beginnings! The scripture below has a beautiful image of snow as a reminder of our hope for forgiveness and rebirth in Christ each day and each year. What a joy it is to know that our hearts can be made clean by the grace of God.

"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;

wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
and do not take your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in me a willing spirit."
-Psalm 51: 7, 10-12

Family Reflection Question: What were your high and lows of 2013? In what areas of your life would you like to ask God for a "clean heart"?
