A message from our school social worker
Dear parents,
I hope this message finds you well.
It was a pleasure to meet with you on Thursday during our GHAPTAC meeting.
For those who were not able to attend the meeting, my name is Immaculee Sugira, I am the School Counselor at GHA since last academic year. I work full time at GHA, Monday to Friday, from 7h10 to 4h45.
As a School Counselor, my role is to enhance the student’s emotional well-being, and help them improve their academic performance. I support them to recognize and use their strengths so that they can confidently manage their problems.
Individual counselling is available for students who have specific needs, to help them resolve personal or interpersonal problems.
Counselling referrals may be received from students, teachers, parents/ guardians, peers, or from our student’s well-being committee.
Another service that is offered through the counselling department is “small group counselling”. Students who will benefit from small group counselling are those who have similar concerns (i.e. academic stress, relationship issue; grief groups, lack of assertiveness, anger management groups, etc.). Small groups offer students the opportunity to share experiences with others, have support, and learn from students who are dealing with similar issues. Students will learn to empathize with others, and will find social support through healthy peer relationships.
We also do prevention, by offering some training to develop skills that improve students’ organization; study habits; social skills, etc.
We encourage you to reach out if you have any concerns regarding your child. If you would like me to meet with your child, please do not hesitate to contact the counselling department. The school counselor is fully available for consultation over the phone, or for individual appointments to discuss your child’s needs or concerns.
The school counselor can be reached on her direct line, 0783579896, or by email at sugirai@greenhillsacademy.rw.
We are very much looking forward to the 2019-2020 school year and the opportunities to interact with each of the students and help them to grow and succeed in any way possible!
Yours truly,
Immaculee Sugira

On Thursday, October 10, Green Hills Academy held a ceremony to present certificates to the the students who passed their ABRSM (Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music) exam. This is an internationally recognized program which benefits from the Queen of England being a patron and the Prince of Wales being the president. Those who performed above average were awarded their grade level with merit. Those whose performances were of the highest caliber received their level with distinction.
Our results by the numbers:
31 – number of students who participated
100% - pass rate.
15 – levels achieved with merit
4 – levels achieved with distinction
We would like to give special recognition to the following students who attained distinctions:
