Preparing for 2020-2021
Tony Tobin Elementary~August 3, 2020
~Meet Tony Tobin's New Principal~
Mrs. Hernandez~Tony Tobin Principal
Dear Tony Tobin Elementary School Community,
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Tony Tobin Elementary School and to join this extraordinary school community. I hope that this note finds you enjoying the remaining days of the summer and that you and your children are looking forward to the beginning of a rigorous, robust & engaging Online Instruction Experience. I can assure you that I share in this school community’s commitment to caring for your children each and every day while providing them a world-class learning environment.
The 2020-2021 school year will mark my 22nd year in education. Since graduating from San Diego State University, I have served as an educator in communities of Chula Vista and Temecula Valley. In Temecula Valley I have worked at various schools as an elementary teacher~across the grade levels, Title 1 Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal and at the District Office supporting our English Learner and Title 1 Programs. Although I have always felt at home in the classroom, it is in my position as an elementary administrator where I have been most fulfilled in my life’s work. This position provides me the chance to work collaboratively with teachers on a daily basis, while also remaining connected to young student’s learning and growing in the classroom. I firmly believe that every child can excel and that the partnership between home and school builds confidence in students to use their strengths to shape their future and the future of our community and our nation.
With my goal of continuing the tradition of excellence here at Tony Tobin Elementary School, I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to more effectively communicate with parents and community members. I look forward to meeting with parents, students, and as a staff throughout the year to identify specific goals in the areas of student achievement, school climate, and parent communication.
To our students, I cannot wait to meet you all! While, initially it will be through Google Meet, I am still excited. While I know our Back to School Plan is not Traditional~~~TOGETHER we can make it GREAT!
In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our students the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2020-2021 school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. JoeAnna Hernandez
Tony Tobin Weekly Communication~
The start to the 2020-2021 school year is around the corner! While I know this is not the way that any of us wanted to start the year, we are excited to see our students again and to begin instruction. There is still a great deal of work to get done before we are ready to launch the the 2020-2021 school year. Tony Tobin Staff are busy at enrolling students and preparing materials needed to learn. Teachers are training, prepping, and developing rigorous coursework to meet the needs of our amazing students through the Tony Tobin version of Online Learning!
We will resume our formal weekly SMORE communication next week~ Tony Tobin TIDBITS. This communication will be sent out Sunday Evenings to help families see the upcoming week's information at a glance. The communication will have updates and weekly important information. I invite you to read the Tony TIDBITS~ SMORE weekly. This is the most detailed communication we can provide to our parents. In past years, this communication is provided via email. Looking ahead, our goal would be to provide this communication in the Tony Tobin Seesaw Platform as this would allow for one spot for families to go and view communications. For information that can't wait for weekly, it will be communicated in the Seesaw app as well. More information about Seesaw Platform coming soon.
While schools physically remain closed to the community, beginning Monday, August 3rd our front office staff will return to work and they look forward to supporting the needs of our Trailblazer community. The Front Office staff can be reached by email or phone.
Thank you in advance for your patience and grace as we continue to navigate uncharted waters. Most importantly, we want you to know that we miss our students and we are working hard to provide meaningful connections and relevant instruction to the Trailblazers!
More details coming soon.

Tony Tobin Student Material Pick-Up Plan~
As this school year is set to begin, it is time for us to plan and prepare the texts books, device and materials pickup for the students. In a typical year, we’d all be saying hello, be finding our classrooms and meeting our teachers. With current health restrictions and TVUSD guidance, we need a different plan.
Please take a moment to read through each part of this plan so that your family is prepared. This plan will address check out of the following:
Devices
TVUSD Technology Use & Liability Agreement
Student textbooks/materials
In order to provide a safe environment for all of our families and staff, we will be coordinating all of these activities through a Pick Up Plan. Each family has been assigned a time to come to the school and complete this process as indicated below. Please take note of your time and plan to attend at this time only. We are a large school and need to provide an orderly, efficient system for everyone to participate. This is only possible with your support and adherence to the plan! Please see below for scheduled times for each family, according to the GRADE LEVEL/FIRST LETTERS OF YOUR LAST NAME.
If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at your earliest opportunity. We know this is all new and unprecedented but I am 100% confident we can make it happen and have everyone start this school year prepared with their materials and supplies as we always do.
Thank you for your patience and support.
