HEAR YE, HEAR YE Dr. Resilla
Hirsch Hawks, can you believe we are almost at the end of the school year 2019-2020? This week is the final week of PBL 2.
This week you may see many cars up at the school. Our teachers will be working diligently this week to gather all materials for distribution next week. More details are to come regarding when you can come pick up student materials.
As a result of our plans for next week we will be cancelling some Academic Sessions for teachers to have uninterrupted time to work in their classrooms to gather everything. Please be on the lookout for Dojo, text, or email messages from your teachers regarding schedule changes this week.
Next week we will begin our final PBL. This PBL will be 1 week in length. More details coming your way.
We want to encourage our parents to use Schoology to submit student assignments. We have found it very helpful to download the Schoology APP for submitting assignments from your phone. Below is a video on how to down load the APP.
Let us continue to stay safe. stay focused, and finish strong!

Do you want your child to have the academic and language advantage?
Hirsch Elementary is a proud Dual Language School
The two-way dual language program does not only cater to families whose first language at home is Spanish. Families whose first language at home is English can enroll in the program, so their scholars can immerse in both the English and Spanish language and culture early on in their education.
For Dual Language application information please visit our Hirsch Elementary web page at https://www.springisd.org/Hirsch2
For information about Dual Language Kindergarten please email Mrs. Salazar at csalazar@springisd.org or Mrs. Ramirez at aramirez@springisd.org.

How Student Grades Will Be Determined
As students start to turn in their completed PBL assignments, we want to update everyone on how the grading system will work.
Within each PBL, there is a grading rubric, which will be used to assess each assignment. That rubric will be used, in conjunction with earlier marking periods, to determine final grades.
Here is a graphic that will help explain how grades will be calculated. Should you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Financial Help for Renters
In the past weeks, issues such as food stability, health, education and income have all been impacted. With people’s finances disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, renters may have difficulty making rent payments. We are sharing a list of resources from the COVID-19 Houston Resource Pack for anyone who might be facing this issue. Please help spread the word about these available resources by sharing this information with anyone you know who may need extra assistance.
YMCA Offers Childcare for Essential Personnel
YMCA Houston is offering various locations as daycare centers for essential personnel. Essential personnel are defined as city and county staff responding to the crisis, first responders (police, fire, EMS), medical personnel, food provision/distribution personnel (food bank and grocery stores) and other organizations/businesses providing critical services to the community during the crisis. Participating children would be fed three meals a day and participate in a wide-array of fun, enrichment activities such as arts, crafts, games, literacy, STEAM and more. Meals and snacks will be provided by the Houston Food Bank and proof of employment is needed at check in. Please look online to see which centers are offering this service and sign up.
