Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year!
Welcome back Owen students and families to the 2023-24 school Year! Our school theme for the upcoming year is "We are 'OWL' about our community!" Our Owen Team is dedicated to creating a learning community where our students, staff, and families feel they belong. We are committed to helping your child have a bright, successful year through cultivating a safe and positive classroom environment, building relationships, and establishing high expectations for learning. We value your partnership as an integral team member in supporting your child's learning and growing.
Our Owen Team is excited to see our students and families very soon as we kickoff a terrific school year together!

Welcome to the Owen Team!
Welcome Ms. Kowalski!
Owen welcome Ms. Kowalski to our kindergarten team! Ms. Kowalski was a teacher for seven years in the Plainfield District 202 teaching kindergarten and third grade. In her free time, Ms. Kowalski enjoys being with friends and family. She also enjoys working out, walking her dog, and watching BRAVO. A fun fact about Ms. Kowalski is she student taught at Owen Elementary School the spring of 2016! She is so excited to return to the Owen community!
Welcome Miss Senese!
We welcome Miss Senese to our 5th grade team! Miss Senese recently graduated from Elmhurst University. During her time at Elmhurst, she student-taught fifth grade in District 205 at Conrad Fischer Elementary School. Miss Senese has lived in Naperville her entire life and attended schools within District 204 since elementary school. Her hobbies include spending time with her family and close friends, along with playing soccer. She is the youngest of four girls in her family, so she loves spending time at her sisters’ homes, and babysitting her two nephews. Miss Senese is so excited to be part of Owen Elementary School, and she looks forward to a year of new experiences, lots of learning, and of course, lots of fun!
Welcome Mrs. Templin!
We welcome Mrs. Templin to our special education team as a special education teacher! Mrs. Templin studied at Western Kentucky University for undergraduate school and Purdue University for graduate school. She has been working in special education for eight years in many different roles. She lives in Lemont with her husband, Brad, and their two kids, Charlotte and Troy. Mrs. Templin and her family enjoys biking, cooking, and traveling. She is so excited to join the team at Owen!
Welcome Mrs. Townsend!
Owen welcomes Mrs. Townsend as our Interventionist! Mrs. Townsend joins us from the Oswego School District where she had the opportunity to be an Instructional Coach, Reading Specialist, and Kindergarten Teacher. Mrs. Townsend and her husband recently celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary. They have a daughter, Alexis, who is nine and going into 4th grade. Mrs. Townsend enjoys traveling, bike riding, golf, being at the pool/beach in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter.
Popsicles on the Playground!
Mrs. Hebenstreit and I are so excited to meet our Owen students and families! We invite you to attend "Popsicles on the Playground" on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to meet us! Families are welcome to stop by anytime during this timeframe that works well with your family's schedule. Enjoy a refreshing treat, play on our new playground, visit with community members, and introduce yourself to us. We can't wait to meet you!
Homeroom Teachers
Parents/guardians may view their child's homeroom teacher on ParentVUE starting Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. If you have not completed your child's registration, you will be unable to view your child's teacher until the registration process has been completed. Kindergarten Orientation
We welcome our kindergarten students and parents/guardians to attend Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Kindergarten Orientation provides our kindergarten students with the opportunity to meet their classroom teacher, bring their school supplies, and explore their classroom. Please join us for Kindergarten Orientation at the following times:
- Last Names A-E 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
- Last Names F-K10:45 to 11:15 a.m.
- Last Names L-Q 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Last Names R-Z 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.

Meet the Teacher (1st through 5th Grade)
We welcome our first through fifth grade students and families to attend Meet the Teacher! Meet the Teacher is scheduled for Monday, August 21, 2023 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Students may bring their school supplies to their classroom during Meet the Teacher. We look forward to welcoming back our students and families!
First Day of School
1st Grade through 5th Grade
Our first day of the 2023-24 school year for our first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade students is Thursday, August 24, 2023. The first day is a full day of student attendance from 9:05 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. We will utilize our daily arrival and dismissal procedures for the first day of school.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
The safety of our Owen's students is a priority for our Owen Team! To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we ask parents/guardians to please read carefully and adhere to the arrival and dismissal procedures. Please be patient during arrival and dismissal as we start the school year as our students learn new routines. Owen's Recess and Lunch Schedule
Owen's students receive a 15 minute recess and a 20 minute lunch. The students also receive an additional 15 minute recess during the school day with their grade level. Please click on the following link to see when your child's grade level will have recess and lunch:

Snack and Water
Owen's students are welcome to bring a healthy snack to school with a bottle of water. The snack does need to be peanut free. Also, please have your child's water bottle labeled with his/her name.

Ice Cream Social
Our Owen PTA invites our families to attend the Ice Cream Social held during Meet the Teacher on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. (Kindergarten families are also welcome to attend the Ice Cream Social even though Kindergarten Orientation is on August 24th.) The Ice Cream Social will be held in the Owen gymnasium. After you enjoy your delicious ice cream, spend time exploring our new playground!
School Supply Pick-Up
School supply pick-up for families who ordered school supply kits will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023. Pick-up is in the Owen gymnasium from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Families may enter at Door 2. Please bring a permanent marker to label your child's school supplies.
