The Cat's Connection
May 2018
Thank you, Teachers!
This week we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week! Our staff has worked tirelessly this year to create great experiences for our kids. Our staff's goal is to engage students in meaningful ways and to give them opportunity to practice vital skills like creativity, collaboration, and problem solving. This all takes a genuine love for what they do and a love for our kids.
I appreciate our staff! It makes me smile when we have a special day to appreciate someone or a group of folks who really deserve recognition far more often. This week our teachers have been showered with appreciation, which is well deserved. Every day I get to see them in action, and what I recognize most is their caring way with kids.
Yes, we work in middle school, and though everyday can be an adventure, we have the people who are here to support kids and community. As principal, I am confident that we have a team of folks who are good for kids! If you see anyone who works with our kids, please thank them. They are doing amazing work!
Glad you're here!

STEAM Night
The great things our kids do are worth showing off! Giving students opportunity to show their work to real audiences is a big part of what makes learning meaningful.
Thursday, May 31, from 6 - 8 p.m., we invite our parents and community to STEAM Night. The event will include student exhibition of class projects from a variety of content areas and give attendees a chance to take part in an assortment of STEAM challenges. We are hoping for some Whitworth projects to be on display as well as we try to create a district-wide STEAM event! This will be a great event to showcase student work and a chance to have some fun with the family.
5th Grade Tours & Preview Night
We are looking forward to welcoming our incoming 6th graders!
5th Grade tours are coming up soon, hosted by our current leadership students. These tours allow our 5th graders to see the building, get a picture of what to expect, and most importantly to ask questions. This is a great tradition and our students do a great job welcoming our next class of Wildcats!
In addition to our tours for students, we will also be hosting an incoming 6th Grade Preview Night for students and parents. Join us Tuesday, May 29, from 6:30 - 8 p.m. You will have a chance to meet staff, visit classrooms, and just get acquainted with our school. We hope to see you there!

8th Grade Recognition
8th Grade Recognition, for 8th graders who have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above, will be held in the Dallas High School main gym Monday, June 11, from 6 - 7 p.m. While this is an exciting time of transition, we want to remind parents and students that it is not necessary to go to any expense to prepare for the evening. Appropriate attire for students should be nice school clothes. Please follow the LaCreole dress code, which means no spaghetti straps or dresses shorter than finger-tip length, no sagging pants, etc. We strongly discourage extravagant fanfare as it detracts from the school focus of recognizing the academic achievement of our students. Seating is limited, so we ask that only immediate family members be invited. LaCreole students who do not have siblings participating are asked not to attend as they can send the 8th graders off during the school day as part of yearbook signing. Students not accompanied by an adult will not be admitted. We thank you for supporting our efforts to focus our attention on academic achievements. If you have questions, please call the LaCreole Counseling Center at 503-623-6663.
Reminder: All school fees must be paid by Friday, June 8.
