Welcome Mrs. Galvez!
Her assigned grade-levels include PK-1st grades, although she will support all Rattlers with academic, career and personal/social needs. She is passionate about serving the students of SISD with a comprehensive counseling program that advocates for students to become successful, resilient, life-long learners.
Mrs. Galvez’s educational background includes a master’s degree from UTEP in educational school counseling in May 2008. Since then she has served as an elementary school counselor in SISD for over 11 years. Prior to Ms. Galvez’s career in counseling, she was a classroom teacher at Benito Martinez Elementary with a bachelor’s degree from UTEP in multidisciplinary studies.
During Mrs. Galvez’s counseling experience at SGT. Roberto Ituarte Elementary, the school counseling department earned multiple, prestigious L.S.S.S.C.A. Awards. Mrs. Galvez is the proud recipient of the LSSSCA bronze, silver and gold Awards from 2016-2019.
Mrs. Galvez is extremely eager and ambitious about serving the Dr. Sue Shook Community and being a part of the Rattler Family.

Small Group Counseling
Many of our students have had experiences and share the same concerns through these situations. A student can benefit from the opportunity to discuss his/her feelings about these concerns by participating in a small group counseling session. A small group is comprised of 4-8 students that generally meet for six to eight sessions. The following groups are likely to be formed to address the need of our students:
Friendship Skills
Coping with Grief and Loss
Coping with Anxiety/Stress/Worry
Improving Self-Concept/Self-Esteem
Study Skills
Anger Management
Most small group sessions will take place during enrichment and recess blocks to minimize the impact on instructional time. However, for some topics it is beneficial for students to meet at other times of the day.
If you feel your child will benefit from these small group sessions, please click on the link and complete the form. The school counseling program at Dr. Sue Shook Elementary is designed to support students, teachers and families.
If more information is desired about the small group counseling sessions, please feel free to contact the Counseling Office and we will be more than happy to assist you.
