The climate in mainland Portugal varies from north to south and from coast to mountain. In the south, they have hot summers and mild winters (so more of a Mediterranean climate). Up in the north, the coast gets warmed by the Gulf Stream. Summers are warm and winter is still mild. Going further inland the summers are still hot but the winter temperature lowers and around this time you can find snow.

In the Algarve, there are twelve hours a day of sunlight. The average maximum temperature is 82 degrees Fahrenheit and minimum being 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Up in the north, even though temperatures are lower, it still receives eleven hours of sunlight a day. During the summer it is ideal to travel here with the calm, cooling, light, breezes.
