The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
November 22, 2019
WOW!
We hosted a mobile dentist through the Smile America Partners and were able to assist students with routine check-ups and cleanings. But it didn't stop there! They also provided x-rays for the students to check for cavities, did minor fillings, and scheduled students to come back for any extractions that were needed. It was truly amazing to see a reclining lawn chair morphed into a dentist's office. A huge shout out goes to Ms. Wendt (science and health teacher) for arranging the specifics of the program and bringing this opportunity to Carleton.

Getting Set Up
Nope...still observe.
Substitute Teaching
If you know of anyone that would like to substitute teach, we are looking for a few more candidates to help out at Carleton. Scheduling can be flexible with subbing everyday or just 1-2 days a week.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Please consider attending Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, November 25th or Tuesday, November 26th. On Monday, we'll be here from 5-8 PM and Tuesday we'll be here from 12:30-3 PM and again from 5-8 PM. This is a great opportunity to speak with your child's teachers about their progress, successes, struggles, and behavior. Also, the BOOK FAIR (see below) will be here and you can do some holiday shopping for your child. (They have more than just books).
Our counselors, administrators, and other support staff will be here as well to answer any questions you may have. We hope you will take some time to visit us next week. If you have never attended a middle school conference, I would encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and visit us. Contrary to elementary conferences, there are no "scheduled" times to meet with teachers but rather a first come, first served system. Arrive when you can and visit with your son or daughter's teachers at any point throughout the scheduled times. We will have a "quick-lookup" available for the most current grades in the 2nd quarter.
JET THEATRE
WORD uses four actors to tell the story of the results of an incident of bullying from three different perspectives: the bully, the victim and a witness. Why is Stanley a “loser?" Why is Phil a “tough guy?" How did Erica’s action or inaction influence the outcome? Individual sessions with the school’s psychologist cause all involved to think more clearly about what happened and why.
WORD is approximately 40 minutes long. It is intended to be followed by a short discussion with our actors and stage manager and our students. WORD contains eight scenes which take place in the school psychologist’s office, a classroom, the school cafeteria and a school hallway.
WORD is an essential show for today’s students and addresses one of their biggest issues—bullying. It is a thought provoking story that will provide a starting point for discussion of students’ awareness of the problem, possible resolution and prevention of bullying in the future. WORD is important theater that our students will find relevant, entertaining and engaging.
Our seventh and eighth grade students will enjoy a performance on Monday, November 25th.
Poster Contest Winners from left to right. Drew Maslowski (6th), Teresa Kesto (7th), Isabelle Gonzales(8th).

General Lee's Battles
Victory- Congratulations to Ms. Scheele's 4th hour class on being accountable and getting to class on time. They won the 4th hour tardy challenge!
Defeat- We still have students that need to be accountable and get to class on time. Too many tardies can result in progressive discipline via the 3-5-7 policy.
Victory- Students are doing a great job of being compassionate. Our cafeteria is filling up with "Compassionate Colts."
Defeat- With the Thanksgiving break approaching, students should limit their social media time and spend the time relaxing with family.
