Spanish Armada (1585-1604)
By Joe, Luke, Deborah
Summary
Causes
The conflict between the English and the Spanish had numerous beginning points. After Elizabeth Tudor was crowned Queen, she experienced much more toleration concerning the Protestants than the Spanish would have liked. She also helped the Dutch in their revolt against the Spanish. Combined with the fact that Queen Elizabeth refused to get married and turned a blind eye when English ships pirated Spanish gold, the Spanish were not happy with Queen Elizabeth and what she was doing with her country; England.

In this account of the battle against the Spanish Armada, Sir Richard Grenville sails his ship, La Revenge, into battle against the Spanish ships without authorization. Lord Thomas Howard, who commanded the English ships, gave orders to his men that no ship would encounter the Spanish alone. Sir Grenville didn't follow Lord Howard's orders and the consequence of Sir Grenville's actions resulted in the capture of his ship and of his men.
