Capitol and Major Cities

The Capitol of Paraguay is the city of Asuncion. Asuncion is the largest city in Paraguay and is known for the colonial and historical art building as well as their large shopping malls. It is also the center of national Goverment and industrial ports. Other major cities include San Bernadino, Ciudad del Este, Encarnacion and Aregua.

History

Paraguay was not always an independent country. For over 200 years Spain had controlled Paraguay. The first Spainiarads came to Paragiay in the early 16th century and they started to colonize small areas. This grew into the full control of Paraguay in the 1700s. After many years of war Paraguay declared independence on May 14th 1811.

Flag and Language

The flag of Paraguay has red,white and blue horizontal stripes with the national oat of arms in the middle. It is believed to represent freedom and liberty. The official language of Paraguay is Spanish. Since the Spainish ruled Paraguay for so long many people are fluent in Spanish than other languages.

Geography

Paraguay is located in the center of South America between Bolovia,Brazil, and Argentina. Paraguay has many interesting physical feautures such as mountains,rivers,lakes,hills, and waterfalls. Some famous feautures include the Paraguay River,the Iguacu Falls, and Cerro Pero.

Politics and Economy

Paraguay has a representative democracy and their current president is Horacio Cartes. Paraguay has been a democratic country since their independence from Spain and Horacio Cartes has been president of Paraguay for almost 3 years. The currency in Paraguay is the Paraguay Guarani and Paraguay has a socialist economic system.

Tourism

Many tourists come to Paraguay for the beautiful wildlife and historical architectures. Places such as the National Pantheon of the Heroes, Slatos de Monday, Cerro Cora National Park, Yacare National Park and Lagoon Inmakata are some of the most visited places in Paraguay.
