A Note from Ms. Gons
We had a great week at WP! We began the Week of Respect with an assembly from Brian Chevalier, Musical teaching Artist. Mr. C led students in songs about Respect, Kindness and Friendship. He also taught them song lyrics in sign language and had groups of students leading their class in song. Students had a great time singing, dancing and clapping along to the music! Thank you to the Warren Point PTA for sponsoring this amazing assembly! Our Week of Respect ended with Color Games! Students and staff had fun participating in activities and events that supported teamwork and the pillars of character. Thank you to Ms. Nolan for organizing the games and to the PTA volunteers!
Walk to School with Ms. Gons
On Monday, we will have our annual "Walk to School with the Principal" Day. We will meet at 8:15 at Fire Company 3 on Plaza road. There will be trucks outside for exploring and pictures! We will leave for WP around 8:25.
CogAT
In coming weeks, the CogAT Screener will be administered to any students in grade 1-4 who are new to the Fair Lawn School District. The CogAT Screener consists of verbal/picture analogies, number analogies, and figure matrices. Data gathered from this assessment will enable us to plan effective programs for our students and make decisions regarding academically talented programs. The screener takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Drop off & Recess
If it is above 32 degrees, and no precipitation, we will be outside for morning drop off and recess. Please have your child dress accordingly.
GEOY
Please consider nominating a teacher or Educational Service Professional for Governor's Educator of the Year. The nomination form is attached below and is due by 10/28. You can send it into school or email me @ sgons@fairlawnschools.org
Practice Evacuation Drill for All Fair Lawn Schools
Good Afternoon Fair Lawn Community,
In collaboration with Fair Lawn Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and FLPD, we will be practicing a district-wide evacuation drill next week. As required by law, we practice various drills several times a month just in case there is a real emergency. The district-wide evacuation drill scheduled for next week will require all schools to evacuate at the same time to their designated evacuation site.
We wanted to inform you so that you are not alarmed should you witness our schools evacuating in Fair Lawn. Please feel free to speak with your child about this drill and they may want to consider wearing comfortable footwear next week.
Unfortunately, we will not be informing everyone which day or what time the drill will take place so that we can practice our emergency protocols.
We will inform families in a timely manner when the drill takes place.
I wish that we lived in a world that we did not have to conduct these practice drills, however our staff and students' safety is our top priority, and we want to ensure that we are prepared in case we are required to evacuate in an emergency situation.
Thank you for understanding and please don't hesitate to reach out to your principal, our Director of Security, or myself with any questions.
Sincerely,
Nicholas J. Norcia, Superintendent
Eagles S.O.A.R.
