Seminar Format
There will be 4 choices, that will repeat twice, to select from.
Note:
Mentor Seminars are a required LCSD Mentor Project component for every beginning teacher in the Lincoln County School District. New for LCSD this school year is a hybrid model for the seminars where there are some required face-to-face meetings and some choices for web-based conferences through our districts Zoom conference feature.
If you are earning WOU credit for the mentor project then you are required to participate in all of the seminars.
CHOICE seminars will be conducted via Zoom conference from "home" sites in each area. CHOICE seminars will be facilitated by mentors, or other educators from throughout the district, including you. Within each CHOICE seminar will be the opportunity to select from 2-4 mini-sessions to attend each hour.

Session A: Formative Assessment
Facilitated by Kristin Becker, participants will share and discuss different formative assessment tools as an integral way to determine student needs and to inform instruction.
Highly recommended for 1st year teachers or 2nd year teachers new to the LCSD Mentor Project or any teacher who would like a refresher. Knowledge and use of formative assessment is essential for work that mentors and beginning teachers do together for Analysis of Student Work.
Target Audience: Kindergarten - 12th grade, All teachers & specialists

Session B: Secondary Literacy Across the Content Areas
Facilitated by Andrea Kopshever, participants will explore ways to use content area writing as a tool for formative assessment that drives instruction.

Session C: Getting Beyond the Surface through Building Academic Language
Facilitated by Melissa Wiese, participants will dive deep into the ways that we can support student understanding of content with an intentional focus on academic vocabulary and language.

Session D: Word Work Through Differentiated Spelling
Facilitated by Marcy Doyle, participants will experience a number of highly effective instructional strategies that foster student engagement and are meaningful to students with varying learning needs
