Notes From Nurse G
Holmes Families:
- A reminder to all families (including upper grade levels): please send a change of clothes to school - accidents can happen at any time (lunch getting spilled on clothes, wet clothes from puddles, etc) and we want your child to be comfortable at school so they can be active learners.
- To ensure the health and safety of our students in the classroom, all snacks (other than fruits and vegetables) must have a label listing all ingredients so we can ensure they meet our District 97 guidelines. Nuts and nut products are not allowed in any classroom: this includes products that are labeled "processed in a facility that shared equipment with nut products."
- In addition, please ensure your child is bringing a healthy snack to school along with a water bottle. Healthy snack choices include fresh fruit and vegetables, dried fruits and vegetables, pretzels, goldfish crackers, rice cakes, wheat thins, packaged popcorn, and lean meats. Be sure to check with your classroom teacher to see what snacks are allowed and not allowed in their classroom.
The staff at Holmes School appreciates your partnership in promoting the health and safety of our children.
- I wanted to send out a friendly reminder about the medication policy for District 97. Students may not possess or consume any medication, including over-the-counter medication (this includes cough drops), without the written orders of a physician along with a parent/guardian signature authorizing the administration of the medication at school. A parent/guardian must sign the bottom of the form. You can locate this form on the District 97 website (http://www.op97.org/health-services/forms). Forms can be faxed, Attn: School Nurse at 708-524-7622, scan and e-mail to me at aguerrier@op97.org, and/or turned into the health office along with the medication.
- All medications (prescription or over-the-counter) must be brought to the nurse in the original pharmacy prescription labeled container or a sealed as purchased over the counter container. Expired medications cannot be given at school. Medications without an updated form cannot be administered in the school. These forms must be updated at the beginning of every school year. Parents should make every effort to give prescribed doses of medication at home. '
- Any questions and/or concerns please feel free to reach me at 708-524-3098 and/or e-mail at aguerrier@op97.org.
