In other news:
This week marks the beginning of the third full week of school! I am excited about all that we have accomplished so far, and look forward to the exciting events and opportunities that will allow us to shine even more in the coming weeks! And speaking of exciting things to come... Next Monday, September 12th, we have our IGNiTE Kick-Off Assembly!! Immediately following the assembly, 3rd-5th grade students will be receiving their individual Chromebooks for classroom and home use. We will be spending that afternoon learning more about our devices, getting them set up, and completing our first lesson on them!!! #WeARETECHSTARSTUDENTS
Thank you in advance for ensuring that your child brings his or her Chromebooks home every night after deployment, uses them with care, and brings them back to school fully charged. They need to be fully charged for the next day of learning, as we will be using them in class daily and during some of our special area classes too. I appreciate your support!!!

Building LEADERS one subject at a time! Attendance Plea and Friendly Reminder
Reading: This week in reading we will continue using "Thinking Stems" to help us to write about what we read. So far, we have learned how to make text to text, text to self, text to world, and word-in text connections. This week we will practice our next stem which is visualizing. We will read the book, A Bad Case of Stripes to visualize what is happening in the story. Then we will make connections to add to one another's thinking.
Math: We will review place value, rounding, and ordering numbers. We will also be taking our Chapter 1 Math Test!!
Science: We finished our experiment on complex mixtures today!! Ask your child how they were able to turn a complex mixture of water, rocks, pebbles, sand, and iron fillings into filtered water!! We had a fun time with this and students did a great job working together for this experiment. The rest of the week will be spent on measuring mass and discussing volume.
Writing: Our "I-Maps" and "I am a Leader Banners" are now hanging up in the hallway for Open House! Our "Creative Design Team" worked very hard making individualized nameplates to hang above student work, for easy viewing. Thank you to Lexie, McKayla, and Annika!

Attendance Plea and Friendly Reminder: We've had a rough start to the school year with our attendance. We have had many students out for various reasons and sickness too, which I know cannot be helped. However, please try to help us out with our attendance goals for the remainder of September!! We want to strive to be higher than 95%, but so far we are not where we need to be and have a long way to go.
Thank you for everything you do to ensure that your child is at school from bell-to-bell. With all of our new technology and subject matter to cover, one day away from school really does make a difference. This past Friday we had our first Leadership Assembly, did a science experiment, combined two math lessons because of the Labor Day holiday, and did our beginning of the year writing test. So again, even one day can really be hard to catch up on!
Students also need to be at school bell-to-bell to receive their Jag Buck for the day!! The quarters fly by so fast that I want to provide your child with every opportunity to stay connected and not get behind.
