Principal's Message

Arroyo Families, our first trimester of school has ended and teachers are in the process of completing report cards. Arroyo teachers will be holding parent conferences the week of November 16-20 through Zoom. Please see below for more important information. As always, our newsletter is packed with important information, so please be sure to take some time to read it. I want to let you all know how thankful I am for every Arroyo family. I know that this has been an incredibly challenging time and appreciate all of you taking on the role of co-teachers this year in addition to all the demands and stresses during this pandemic. Stay safe, healthy and well. Happy Thanksgiving! -Mrs. Bennett

November IB Profile Trait: Communicator

This month, Arroyo Bears are encouraged to be Communicators. Here are some ways that you can help develop your student’s communication skills:

  • When working on homework, encourage your child to explain their answer to you
  • Emphasize that listening is part of being a good communicator.
  • Ask your child questions that require them to think critically and have them discuss with you. For example:
o What would you do if you were scared of someone at school?
o Were you proud of yourself today? Why or why not?
o What invention do you think the world needs?
o If you could spend one day with a person, who would it be and what would you do?

Parent Technology Training-Zoom Workshop

Thursday, Nov. 19th, 5:30-6:30pm

This is an online event.

Reindeer Run

Hello OMSD staff and families, please plan to join us for the 8th Annual Reindeer Run and Rudolph Dash to support Promise Scholars This event will be VIRTUAL and held on Saturday, Dec. 12th. Take part from the comfort of your home or a local park trail. Our virtual event is a fun way to exercise with family, take a walk around the block with your dog dressed up in a holiday outfit, or jog around the neighborhood to support our students through Promise Scholars.

Tag us on Instagram or Twitter @OntMontPS with photos of you and your family dressed up in holiday gear or your dog friend on the day of the virtual event for chances to win prizes. It is about 6,250 steps to equal a 5K, so plan your route and get on the move. Don’t forget to wear a mask to protect your friends and family and have fun!

For adults the City is doing a $20 5K Run/Walk. To register, link here:

For students we are doing a $5 1K Dash (link below). There will be prizes drawn from the 1K Rudolph Dash participants and after Dec. 1 students can pick up Dash bibs at their school sites during meal pick-ups.

Proposed Expansion of Arroyo

Parents, our Superintendent and Board of Trustees are considering a proposal to expand Arroyo by adding 7th grade in 21-22 and 8th grade in 22-23. This would allow our students to complete both elementary and middle school years at Arroyo. Parent meetings were held last month to discuss the proposal and provide time for parents to ask questions and provide input. If you were unable to attend the parent meetings and have questions or would like to share input, please call the school office to speak with an administrator. A decision regarding the proposal will be made by January and we will share out with the parent community at that time.
