The Lion's Share Newsletter
November Edition
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
I hope the November edition of our monthly newsletter finds you and your family well! It's hard to believe that we've already experienced our first snowfall and that we are just a few short weeks away from Thanksgiving break.
First off, I would really like to say thank you for attending Parent/Teacher conferences and our western themed Title Family Event. Each year, we strive to meet with 100% of our families, as we feel this is a great time to come together with our families to ensure the success of each student. I hope that you found this time as the perfect opportunity for communication, clarity, and even a little fun. We had 265 students enjoy a free $5.00 gift card to the book fair for visiting our Family Title Event, which is the best turnout we've had so far! I also wanted to thank you for all of the affirmations you wrote to a teacher or Grant staff member at parent/teacher conferences! I put them up as a surprise to the teachers and they loved reading the kind words! Be sure to see the picture below!
As I mentioned above, we have received our first snowfall of the season. I think this would be an appropriate time to remind everyone to ensure students are dressed properly for colder weather. When the temperature drops below 15° F, students will enter the building prior to the start of school, according to District policy. However, we have bumped that temperature at Grant to 20° F, including wind chill. If the temperature outside falls below 20° F and/or there is heavy snow or rain, we will post our green flags around the outside of the building. The green flag will indicate that students should make their way to the front entrance and will line up inside the building. If you don't see a green flag, then students will line up at their exterior doors as normal. Lastly regarding the weather, this seems to be the time that our Lost & Found becomes a huge pile of jackets, hats, and gloves! Please be sure to check out the Lost & Found if your student is missing anything! These items will be all donated to Goodwill during winter break.
Have you had a chance to see the new mural? The students did such a magnificent job designing and installing the mural, with the help of Concrete Couch! If you haven't had the opportunity to see it, please stop by the front of the school and check it out! Also, if you purchased an inscribed tile a couple of years ago, those tiles now outline the mural.
Our APEX Fun Run was a HUGE success! Thank you for all of your support and encouragement during the two weeks of the APEX Fun Run! The school received a check for $4,500! Some of this money will be put into grade level accounts that will help teachers to supplement classroom supplies. The majority of this money will be used to help our Special Education department purchase some much needed technology. Thank you for helping to make our school a better place!
Do you permit your student into Grant? If so, please be sure to update your contact information with Mrs. Roth in the front office, as our "Choice" window is now open! If you have recently moved, you will need to provide a utilities bill for proof of residence.
Finally, I wanted to ask a question to each of you and hope you would take the time to send me a quick response to ryan.miller@d11.org. It has recently come to my attention that you are receiving flyers sent from the district using an application called "Peachjar." Do you feel that you receive too much information through email, specifically from Peachjar? My goal is to only send pertinent information regarding Grant ES when needed, as I fully understand the frustration of receiving too many emails. Any flyers that are sent your way do not come from the school, but are sent via Peachjar from the District. Again, I would appreciate your response!
Please know that my door is always open to you for any questions or concerns! Thank you for making Grant such a great place for our students and staff!
Thanks for Reading,
Ryan Miller
