Stallions Read to Succeed

March Literacy Newsletter for Parents

Greetings

Greetings parents and thank you for reading the "Stallions Read to Succeed" newsletter. Each week I will provide you with upcoming events and updates on our scholar's progress with the various literacy activities we have embarked on this school year. Reading and writing are life-long skills, and helping our scholars build their reading and writing stamina, increase their reading fluency and comprehension, and expose them to rich vocabulary will effectively prepare our scholars for future success. We are committed to supporting our scholars in reading.

Studentreasures Steps to Promotion

By now, scholars should be "Revising & Editing" their story and illustrations for the Studentreasures project. Please ensure that EVERY scholar have included ONE story to the classbook. Teachers should allow time during morning work for scholars to complete this task daily. Parents can also support the scholars at home by reading the story the scholars plan to submit to ensure spelling, grammar, and the appropriate punctuation marks are included. Review their illustrations to ensure they match the events of the story. Parents, please speak with your scholar's teachers to ensure that you have received a copy of the permission order form for this project. If you would like to order a copy of the classbook, now is the time as you will not have this option to do so once the books have been shipped to the school. I have included an image of the permission order form in this message to inquire about, if you have not already received and returned one. This form assures that all scholars receive a free copy of the book once permission has been granted by the parent/guardian.

February 27th – March 10th

§ Final Draft: This is the time for your scholars to write their final draft on the papers provided by Studentreasures. The final draft documents are located inside the kit that was provided to you.

March 13th – March 17th

§ Pack your kits up and prepare to have them shipped back to Studentreasures for publishing.

Fry Words Competition

Alright, alright!!! We are well into the 2nd half of the 2022-2023 school year. Last semester, our scholars were encouraged to learn the first 500 Fry Words. During the 2nd semester, scholars are encouraged to learn the final 500 Fry Words. Teachers are to submit documentation of the total number Fry Words the scholars have learned to Ms. Henderson by Friday, May 12, 2023. A link to the form to be completed will be shared with you to enter this information.

Parents and guardians, we encourage you to help your scholars learn all 1,000 Fry Words by playing Bingo, Pictionary, Scrabble, Tic-Tac-Toe, scavenger hunts, etc. As you are shopping or driving, encourage your scholars to identify words from the Fry Words list.

The list of Fry words can be found on the back of the weekly communicator in the scholar's take-home yellow folder. Click on the link below to access the list for daily practice.
