Message from the Principal
As we prepare to enter Holy Week with the celebration of Palm Sunday this weekend, it is important to remember that Holy Week is the most important week for Christians when they remember the events leading up to the suffering, crucifixion and death of Jesus. The Church sets apart an entire week to recall the events of the last week of Jesus’ life. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Holy Saturday.
Palm Sunday
Christians remember the day Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem. As Jesus entered the city, people greeted him by waving palm branches and calling out Hosanna.
Holy Thursday
On Holy Thursday, Christians remember the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. During the Last Supper Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to teach them to show love for others.
Good Friday
On Good Friday, Christians remember that Jesus suffered and was made to carry his cross up the hill where he was nailed to it. On Good Friday, the Church gathers to kneel at the cross of Jesus to pay honour to it. The Cross is inseparable from the sacrifice of Jesus, in honouring the Cross people are honouring Jesus who died to bring new life.
Holy Saturday
On Holy Saturday, the Church waits at the Lord’s tomb, meditating on his suffering and death. The altar is left bare and Mass is not celebrated. Every Holy Saturday, the Church has a quiet day. No Masses or Sacraments are celebrated on that day. People pray quietly remembering the body in the tomb.
Easter Vigil
Celebrated on Holy Saturday evening is the dramatic Easter Vigil liturgy that marks the beginning of Easter. It is the highlight of the Church’s year and the main Mass of Easter. Everything that Jesus said and did is only given meaning by his resurrection.
Term’s End
A reminder that the school’s first term finishes on Thursday, 6th April. Students return to school for the start of Term 2 on Wednesday, 26th April. I wish everyone in our community a wonderful break and a safe return for Term 2.
If your family is leaving for holidays before the official end of term, please notify your child’s teacher by email or Seesaw message before the end of this week.
Paul Litherland - a truly respected educator.
For close to 20 years, Paul has been working at the coalface of online crime. Since 2008, he has worked specifically with juvenile victims and their families, and has used those experiences to develop highly informative presentations regarding the risks of the online world.
Since leaving the Western Australia Police in 2014, Paul has grown to become one of the nation’s most recognised and highly awarded educators in the fields of Cyber Safety and Internet Awareness, culminating in him being named the 2022 WA Australian of the Year.
Today, Paul works with over 850 schools and organisations across the country, with the demand for his services continuing to rise. He has been presenting at many of his schools for 10 years and has grown to become a very respected and valued member of those school communities.
Towards the end of his presentation, Paul recommended parents download the ‘Beacon’ app:
If you missed Paul’s presentation or you want to consider again some of the information Paul has given, please take the time to browse his website: Surf Online Safe - Home. It is packed full of valuable information for parents.
On-Line Safety
Paul Litherland spoke with students giving tips on how to stay safe on-line. We consistently remind students of the behaviour we expect of them under our Student Code of Conduct and our Safe Use of IT procedures. We address any behaviour by any student during school hours that falls below these standards. We are particularly vigilant towards any carry over into the school of negative out of hours behaviour.
As I am sure you appreciate, we do not have the authority to control, address or prevent student behaviour occurring outside of school hours. Parents have control and responsibility for their children before they arrive at school and once school finishes.
God Bless

Wrinkly Apple
Create your own mummified apple face!
Materials:
1 apple
1 pop stick
1 plastic bag
¼ cup of salt
½ cup bicarbonate soda
Steps:
- Mix the salt and bicarbonate of soda together in the bag.
- Peel the apple, then cut a face into the apple using the pop stick. Push the stick into the top of the apple so it makes a handle.
- Put the apple into the mixture in the bag, so it is covered.
- Leave the bag open in a warm place. Watch what happens to the apple.
Did you know?
The powders take all the moisture from the apple and make it hard for bacteria to grow. Without the water and bacteria the apple cannot decay, so it just shrivels up and dries up. Do not eat this apple!

Palm Sunday
The Story
The story of Palm Sunday is told in the Gospel of Matthew, book 21, chapters 1-17 (Matthew 21:1-17). The gospel tells the story of Jesus' triumphant ride into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. As Jesus and his disciples walked towards Jerusalem, he sent two disciples ahead, telling them to find a donkey and a colt. The disciples brought the animals, laying their cloaks on the donkey so that Jesus could ride. As he rode towards Jerusalem, people laid cloaks and palm branches on the road in front of him, shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David," and "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord." When he entered Jerusalem, a huge crowd welcomed him, waving palm leaves and shouting "Hosanna," because they supported Jesus and his message. Arriving at the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus healed the blind and the sick; however, at the same time he aroused the ire and suspicion of the priests, who heard children shouting in the temple area calling out, "Hosanna to the Son of David!"

The St Anthony's Way
As parents, we foster positive relationships with the school community
As parents, we play an important role in fostering a positive relationship with our child's school and community. When we build strong partnerships with the school, we not only help our children succeed academically but also contribute to the well-being of the entire community. Here are a few tips to help you build a positive relationship with your child's school and community.
Firstly, make an effort to attend parent-teacher conferences, school events, and volunteer opportunities. This shows your child and the school that you are invested in their education and willing to contribute to the community. Also, make an effort to introduce yourself to other parents and community members, get involved in parent-teacher organisations or school committees, and attend community events. This helps you to build connections with other families and the broader community.
Secondly, communicate regularly with your child's teacher. This can be through email, phone calls, or in-person meetings. Let them know that you are available to support your child's learning and work together to find ways to help your child succeed.
Finally, remember to be respectful and positive in your interactions with school staff and community members. Treat everyone with kindness and appreciation, and always assume positive intent. This helps to build a positive atmosphere in the school and community, making it a welcoming place for everyone.

The Year 4s have had a great yet busy start to the year. The Faction Swimming Carnival got us all excited and ready to compete, while the last few weeks saw us in a footy clinic and a basketball clinic with Damian Martin from the Wildcats..
In class, we have been writing and reading about recounts and procedures for English, while in Religion we have been learning about Baptism and how Lent reflects God’s love for us by giving us his only Son to die on the cross for us. In Maths, we are learning about various ways to add 3 and 4 digit numbers (split strategy, jump strategy and formal algorithm), rounding to the nearest 10s, 100s and 1000s for Number. We are making clocks to help us with reading time in measurement.
In Civics and Citizenship, we are learning about the services of our local government, rules and laws and the importance of personal identity, while in Health we are learning about Bushfire awareness and Child Protection - Keeping Safe. Not to forget Technologies, we are busily building our Playground which we have researched and designed.
