This past week we celebrated Mrs. Corbett and Mrs. VanDyke, our two amazing administrative professionals in the front office! Thank you for all you do for our students, staff, and Smith community!

The Life Skills classes visited Leonard this week to deliver hand-sewn monsters. The kindergarten classes colored monsters, and Mrs. O’Donnell’s students brought them to life. They had so much fun!

On Saturday, April 22, our SMITH MODEL UN CLUB participated in their very first Red Cedar Model UN Conference held at the campus of Michigan State University. Congratulations to the following Smith Knights on their hard work last weekend:

• 8th Graders: Pritika Chavan & Sage Soni
• 7th graders: Hyunjin An, Nishi Bergi, Zayd Siddiqui & Beya Weslati

These students proposed solutions to help solve world issues, collaborated with other students and defended their ideas while simulating the United Nations!

Smith Knights were recognized with the 5 following awards:

• Smith Middle School - Outstanding Small Delegation Award
• Zayd received Verbal Commendation
• Pritika received the Book Award
• Beya received an Honorable Delegate Award
• Nishi was awarded the Best Delegate Award

M-STEP Testing begins this week for 6th and 7th graders in their math classes. Make sure your child's iPad is fully charged each evening.

Our 6th grade students made cardboard creations to represent their research about a global problem. They are going to be presenting their creations to their classmates and getting feedback.

For the first time, Smith Middle School will be holding a Celebration of Learning! Sixth grade students will be showcasing a piece of learning that they are proud of from this school year. Students have already been brainstorming ideas and they will be working on this exhibition in school over the next few weeks. We are looking forward to the event and will be sending more details home to 6th grade families this week!

We are looking for current 7th graders that want to serve as student mentors and school leaders next year at Smith in our WEB program (Where Everyone Belongs). Mrs. Brennan and Mrs. Walls visited 7th grade classes this past week to share details on this opportunity. If you are interested, please complete the application below.

Smith 6th grader's art is being featured this month in Troy School's central office. Congrats to all the students who had their work selected. Art will be on display through May 26.

The Troy High School Model UN Team is excited to announce the Model United Nations (MUN) 2023 Spring MUNkey VII Conference and Workshop for Middle School students! The conference will be taking place SATURDAY, MAY 13th at Troy High School starting at 9:00am.

This yearly conference is a great opportunity for ANY student interested regardless of prior knowledge as the conference provides an early exposure and learning experience and hosts three tracks – experienced, intermediate, and novice – to foster inclusion and cater to each student's skill set. Attached you will find a promotional flyer about the event and linked below is the Google Registration Form where you will find all the registration info, as well as the permission statement, and payments can be made via School Pay. Register by MONDAY, MAY 8th to secure your spot and get all the information necessary! • If you are going to park your car for drop-off / pick-up, please use the third row of parking spots highlighted in below in blue.

• Please do not drop students off at the Martell/Cotswold intersection.
