Together we can do so much!

News & Announcements
- Thank you all for you patience as we navigated getting students home safely on Wednesday. That snow made for some tricky driving and our bus drivers reported it was some of the worst they have driven in all year! We appreciate their caution and dedication to our students. Please know that getting students home safely is always our top priority, even if it needs to happen a little early or it takes a little longer than normal.
- On Monday, we will welcome Mrs. White back from her medical leave. We are very happy to have her feeling better and back with us! We are also very, very grateful to Mrs. DuPree who has been doing an amazing job filling in for her. Thank you, Mrs. DuPree for all your help and we hope you'll be back to visit soon!
- Preschool and Kindergarten Registration: If you have, or know someone who has, children eligible for our preschool or kindergarten programs, mark your calendars. Registration will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022. Preschool registration will be from 9:30-10:30 and Kindergarten registration will be from 11:00-12:00. Registration packets will be available soon. Please note: Current PK and K students will not have school that day.
- Effective, Monday, March 14th, mask wearing will be optional for all staff and students in the school buildings and on the buses. Masks will still be required in the Health Office, as required by federal mandate. At this point in the pandemic, the state and local Boards of Health are moving from mandating face coverings to recommending it but allowing for personal choice. I recognize that for some of you this is very welcome news and for some this may cause some anxiety. I want to encourage us all, regardless of our personal decisions to continue to be respectful of the decisions others are making. I know that all of you will be making the decision that you feel is best for your family as each family situation is unique.
- Later this month, we will be having conferences. This is an important time for families and teachers to get together to discuss progress students are making, as well as to share any concerns that may have arisen. When report cards went home prior to February break, you should have received a time slot for your conferences. If you have not yet done so, please call the front office to confirm or reschedule that appointment. If you are unsure what time your conferences are scheduled for, just call the office or check with your child's teacher.

A note for 6th grade families from Nurse Viney
As you prepare your student for seventh grade, there are a few things to consider. This letter is to make you aware of what is required according to the Massachusetts State Law and the Mohawk and Hawlemont School Committees. All students entering 7th grade are required to have a tdap booster and a meningococcal vaccine prior to the start of the school year. This is normally done during 6th grade and can be obtained at your PCP’s office with just a nurse visit if it hasn’t already been done. A record of these immunizations must be in the health office prior to the start of school in August.
A physical exam is also required within one year prior to entry into that grade through completion of that school year. If your child has had a physical exam done on or after July 1st of the year they entered 6th grade, this exam will satisfy the requirement. Please ask the health care provider who performed the physical exam to fax a copy of the exam and immunizations to the School Nurse where your child attends.
If your child plans on playing sports, a current physical must be on file in the Mohawk School Nurse’s office. Sports physicals are only good for 13 months. If a physical is more than 13 months old, that child will not be allowed to practice or compete in any sport per MIAA rules.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Mohawk Health Office at 413-625-9811 ext. 1318 to discuss your concerns.
