Principal's Message
One huge highlight was the visit from our AISD Superintendent, Dr. Paul Cruz, last Thursday. This is the first true visit from a superintendent to Boone in the 21 years I have been at Boone. So it was a huge honor to host him. He came in conjunction with our Second Annual Career Days. He talked with the students about how to to plan for what you want to do and then how to make it happen. Below you will see some highlights of his visit. I would like to thank Sherina Wharstler and the PTA for hosting the "green room" for our speakers. Ms. Lozo did an amazing job scheduling over 30 community members to discuss careers.
Ginger Bolen, one of our Kinder teachers, was selected as the Boone Teacher of the Year for the 15-16 school year. Other finalists were Ms. Leitz and Ms. McCarter. This is such an amazing staff, to be selected says a lot. She represents Boone well!
AISD is accepting applications for Pre-K 4 tuition program at this time. Boone is one of 36 schools in AISD with this program. It is a terrific way for students to learn social and emotional skills, develop language and vocabulary and pre-readiness skills for school. Boone has space for up to 15 tuition based students. Spaces fill fast. If you or anyone you know are interested, please contact Marisa Garza about how to enroll. Spread the word.

Career Days at Boone
On Thursday, January 28 and Friday, January 29, 4th-5th graders had their second annual Career Days. We hosted a variety of professionals from around the community to speak to the students about their careers. This experience provided a great opportunity for the students to relate the classes they are taking now to their future careers and success in jobs.
A variety of APD units visited Boone, which some of you may have even heard or seen the display on the field. The students saw 4 different units: Air-1, SWAT, Motorcycle patrol, and Mounted patrol. The students didn’t know what to think when they saw a helicopter land, motorcycles and SWAT parked on the blacktop, and 3 horses grazing on Boone’s field. Through organized rotations the students were able to spend time with each unit to hear about their specialization and professional background.
Even AISD’s Superintendent, Dr. Cruz, came to speak with the 4th & 5th graders! It was a treat to have him on campus and inspire the students about the importance of setting goals for their futures. He emphasized how the preparation for graduation and their careers begins now. Dr. Cruz interacted with many of the students and finished by leaving each student with an envelope to open on their high school graduation day. What a great experience!
We had so many careers shared with our students! Thank you to all of other fabulous guests that shared their time and passion for what they do in our community!

Spring Carnival Help
Attention, attention, read all about it, the Boone Spring Carnival is upon us! It will be here before you know it! We are so excited to host our favorite, fun filled family event in April. If you are interested in helping to chair a committee, such as Silent Auction Chair, Volunteer Coordinator, etc, please contact our Spring Carnival Chair, Brenda Ledesma at ledesmabrenda@yahoo.com, or PTA President, Serenity Lange at Serenitylange@gmail.com
If you would rather be a part of a committee, and not the chair please email as well, we would love all the help you are willing to give. We will have plenty of volunteer opportunities the day of the carnival as well. (As we near the carnival date, sign-ups will begin to go out).
If you are a business owner, or work for a corporation that loves to give, please let us know about that too, we would love donations for our silent auction. We are also actively seeking corporations to sponsor* a ride, or rides to our event. Please contact the above referenced persons if interested. *Sponsor refers to the cost of the ride or entertainment item for the length of the carnival. Costs can be denoted directly from Brenda Ledesma, our Spring Carnival Chair.
If you own a business, and are interested in hosting a booth or supporting our endeavors in another way, perhaps with offsetting other costs, we would love to have that support as well. We would love for this carnival to be the most spectacular one yet. We can’t wait to meet you.
