As we make our way towards the end of the school year with the warmer weather, we need to remind our children that modest, appropriate clothing is the expectation during the school day. It is important to instill this in our children at a young age. Please refer to the student handbook for exact specifications of what modest dress consists of. Another very important message we ask you remind your child about is the “Keeping their hands/feet to self” message. They have been reminded about this throughout the year through our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This is directly related to our Supercats program whereby students are rewarded for following through on expected behaviors.
Spring is a time for our local and state testing to take place. State testing is the M- Step for our 3rd and 4th grade students, and NWEA is our local testing completed three times a year. We also have Fountas & Pinnell, or Running Records, which helps teachers determine how well students are reading and comprehending what they've read. This testing has been stretched out over the course of six weeks from the last two weeks of April through the month of May. Students do not test every day, but we especially ask that you help us help your child on test days by ensuring they have a good nights sleep, having them eat a nutritious breakfast, and reminding them to take their time and try their best. These tests are not only used to show the progress of your child, but also to show us what areas we need to focus on specific to the instructional/educational needs of each student at Steeby. The attached report from NAESP will assist you in helping your child be ready for their upcoming test.

DRESS CODE REMINDER
If students are wearing shorts, the length of the shorts must fall below the student's fingertips as their arms are relaxed by their sides.
If students are wearing a shirt with straps, the straps must be at least 2 fingers wide and it must fit snuggly under the arms (no gaping).
We appreciate the parents assistance in helping us enforce this dress code.
Cereal Drive
Congratulations to Mrs. Fortier's 2nd grade class who earned a pizza party for having the most boxes donated (a total of 39 boxes for the class).

Media Center News
April is poetry month! We have been reading poetry and going to poetry websites on Information Place in media class. Second and fourth grade students have been creating their own poems and printing them out.
Third grade students have been taking the media skills test. The test covers topics we have been learning about in media class. The test has questions about digital citizenship, being safe online, research skills, library search skills and recognizing different book genres.
Steeby also had a fun dinosaur themed Literacy Night in April. Students and their parents attended an evening full of fun literacy events. The names of students who visited every activity were placed in a drawing for a prize drawing. The winners were as follows:
Jillian Senneker: $25 Barnes & Nobles Gift Card
Jake Reeder: Diary of an Awesome Kid book
The following winners selected a prize from the prize box & received a free book:
