LAF Update
March 25th
Hello
Lafayette Report Cards for trimester two were just released on March 20th via the Parent Portal. In the coming days, we will begin to work as a team to determine how to effectively assess our students' remote learning. Until this guidance comes out and knowing that this experience can never replicate what is done in the classroom, we ask that the students continue to work to the best of their ability. Please remind the students of the following
- Struggle is what happens when our brains are working to make sense of learning. It is normal and needed to grow our brains.
- They have many of the tools to persevere through the work they are being assigned. Remind them to take a breathe and take the time to find the tools.
- Honor their mistakes and cherish the lessons in patience because sometimes patience and time give us the answers that we are looking for.
Remember to reach out to your child's teachers if you have any questions about an assignment or if you find that your child is not managing the work in a timely manner. Just as in class, the teachers will adjust the directions or lessons to meet the needs of all students.
And lastly, my reminder to you as I listen to my son repeatedly tell me, "That is not how Mrs. Bartell wants us to do it!" it is sometimes okay to say, "That is all for today at 10:00 a.m." Be well and stay in touch.
Cheryl

Daily Attendance
As noted in Monday's Update, please post your child's absences as you normally would if we were in school. District Nurses and Attendance Secretaries will be monitoring absences and tracking illness patterns.
Attendance Message:
The latest guidance from the Department of Education is that all students will be considered present while we are providing remote instruction unless a parent specifically indicates that their child is unable to participate in the instruction we are providing.
If your child is unable to participate in the daily instruction please log into the Parent Portal to mark them absent (see below for directions). If you are having difficulty managing the attendance, you can reach out to Lisa McHugh emchugh@chatham-nj.org or Jill Citron jcitron@chatham-nj.org to assist you.
LAF Live & Calm Cougars
The Broadcast Club and LAF Teachers worked to develop ten LAF Live videos on Friday which will be posted daily in the LMC Google Classroom using the communication platform Padlet.
LAF Live and Calm Cougars are how LAF starts every morning. We thought this would be a great way to help the students maintain a connection to their daily school life. Each day, Mrs. Cifrodella will post the daily LAF Live video. Each week, I will post a few Calm Cougars that the students can use to support their brain breaks or support their need to just "Be Still".
Please encourage your child to check out the LMC Google Classroom every morning or click this link.
