Roynon Raccoon Report
January/February 2021
Volume IV, Edition 4
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Roynon Families,
Distance Learning continues in all BUSD schools due to the current surge of COVID-19 cases. Although we all agree that Distance Learning is not the best way to learn/teach, we are continuing to make positive strides in our children's education via distance learning. This would not be possible without the collaboration between parents, teachers, and students. Thank you for doing all you can to make this a positive learning experience for our children.
As we begin the second half of the school year, please take some time to review the parent and student expectations of distance learning listed below. Please remember that students should not be dressed in sleepwear during the school day. Students will be more alert and engaged if they get up and get ready for school each day. In addition, many families have found that noise canceling headphones are very helpful. Lastly, continue to help your child "own" their own learning. No one expects parents to be full-time teachers or to be educational and content matter experts. Provide support and encouragement, and expect your children to do their part. Struggling is allowed and encouraged! Don’t help too much. Becoming independent takes lots of practice and students learn best if they make mistakes. The teacher will support them.
We are excited about TWO events we have planned in the near future: The Great Kindness Challenge and our Roynon Reading Challenge.
Next week (January 25- 29) is Kindness Week at Roynon. This is our FOURTH year participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. We are excited to be able to participate in a VIRTUAL event. This week all student's will receive a Great Kindness Challenge Kind Acts Checklist in their materials. A copy of that form has also been included below. Teachers will be referring to this Virtual Classroom Edition Checklist next week. In addition, two videos are linked, including a video for the Family Challenge. The Great Kindness Challenge Family Acts of Kindness Checklist is also attached below. This week has become one of our favorites here at Roynon and we are happy that we can at least do it virtually.
During the month of February, we are having a Roynon Raccoon Reading Challenge. Each class will be in competition with the other classes at the grade level. Winners will be announced on March 2. In addition, we will be having Story Time with Mystery Readers at 5pm each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the month of February. More information can be found later in this email, including the Zoom link. We hope your family will be able to join us for some of our story times!
Don't forget, yearbook orders are due no later than February 1st. They will not be available to purchase after this date. Thank you for your understanding.
We hope that all of our Roynon Families are doing well. If you have COVID-like symptoms or someone in your family has tested positive, please do not come on to campus to pick up your student's materials. Arrange for a friend or relative to pick it up for you. If that is not possible, please call the office and we will try and arrange a delivery.
Your Partner in Education,
Tammi DiGrazia
Join us as Roynon participates in the global movement of over 10 million young people who have accomplished more than half a billion acts of kindness. Let’s show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!
Zoom link for Mystery Readers is in your child's Canvas classroom and will been emailed/texted to family from Mrs. DiGrazia on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
Please watch. It's empowering!
