PTO Officer Elections Slated for April Meeting

Deerfield PTO will have three of its four officer positions open for the 2023-2024 school year. Elections will be held at the April 11 meeting. Below are the positions we will elect for a two-year term:

Vice President: Assist President in their duties, as needed. Will hold meetings if the President is absent. Coordinates Deerfield t-shirt sales.

Treasurer: Drafts the yearly budget. Is responsible for distributing reimbursement payments for class parties, as well as payments for conference meals and other PTO expenses. Provides a monthly accounting of expenses compared to the annual budget. Makes all deposits for fundraising.

Secretary: Prepares an agenda and attendance sheet for each PTO meeting. Attends all PTO meetings and takes meeting minutes. Sends meeting minutes to the Deerfield administrative staff to post on the school website. Collects information from PTO committees and sends out the monthly Deerfield PTO newsletter. Uses Facebook and the Remind app to send out reminders to families about upcoming events.

In addition to the above elected positions, PTO is still looking for family volunteers to bring back Marathon Club! Marathon Club has traditionally been held after school on Wednesdays. PTO is open to exploring other after school time slots, as needed, to work with the volunteers’ schedules. If you are interested, please email

Mrs. Fisher is January’s High-5 Winner!

Congratulations to our High-Five January winner, Mrs. Fisher!

Mrs. Fisher, a Lawrence native, is one of our kindergarten teachers! She was nominated by her student, Sadie Patterson. Sadie thinks Mrs. Fisher deserves a HUGE high-five because “She is nice and teaches me well and teaches me good things about the ABCs!”

Congratulations Mrs. Fisher! Thank you for all that you do!

The beautiful flowers were donated by Dillons on Lawrence Avenue. Mrs. Fisher, Sadie and their class will be treated to a pizza party from Toppers to celebrate!

Thank you to all the students who nominated our amazing Deerfield staff and teachers this month. Nominations for February will be accepted until Tuesday, February 21st! Students can fill out a paper form in the library or complete an online submission here:

Deerfield VIP- Very Important People Volunteers

In an effort to be inclusive of all people, Deerfield is moving away from the WatchDOGS program and moving to Deerfield VIPs. Deerfield VIPs (Very Important People) is a volunteer opportunity aimed at adults who are important to our students. Deerfield VIPs can be individuals who serve as a positive role model in the life of any Deerfield student. As a Deerfield VIP, you will volunteer for your child's teacher/grade level in a variety of settings and complete a variety of tasks. For example: a Deerfield VIP could help supervise recess, work with small groups of students, and/or complete clerical tasks. The VIPs will receive a daily schedule for the amount of time they volunteer. VIP dates/times are at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Due to limited space, VIPs will not be able to stay for or to help with lunch in the cafeteria. At this time, we're asking that VIPs only sign up for a maximum of 2 times per semester.

Change Maker of the Week:

Our goal is for our students to see themselves in our change makers and to also learn that they can do anything they put their mind to. Another goal is for our students to see people who are unfamiliar to them, to grow in empathy, and push for justice for the inequalities that marginalized communities face.
