Welcome Back SBS families, faculty, and staff! Can you believe that we've been back to school for nearly a month already? We can't either!

In all of the busyness that comes with adjusting to new classes, new schedules, new fall sports & other activities, we hope that you will take a few moments to read about about what we've been up to and where we're headed in the 2018/19 school year.

EVENT RECAP

Summer Giving

Because of your continued generosity last school year we were able to fund not only the completion of our SBS Library's Leveled Book Room (our goal for 2017/18), but also "shopped" over the summer for:


Nearly $10,000 in Epson Smart Projectors!

These essential classroom tools allow for smooth integration of technology into our students' lessons and assist our amazing teachers in delivering information to our kids in relevant, meaningful ways. $120 in Superflex Materials to help grow this program focused on Social/Emotional Thinking in our school.



Did you know that since 2015, the Stone Bank PTO has spent on $68,451 on improvements and additions to Stone Bank School?!?!

School Supply Sale

Mod Pizza Fundraiser

It was great to see all the Stone Bank faces at our first Mod Pizza Fundraising night of the 2018/19 school year! Your quick (and DELICIOUS!) dinners out raised $198.93 for our school!

Bingo For Books

Another Successful Bingo For Books Event is in the "Books", so to speak!

PTO Gave out 80 books, and raised enough money in meal sales to purchase our OWN Bingo equipment (vs borrowing from Shorehaven in Oconomowoc), ensuring that we are able to provide this fun welcome back to school event as long as families are interested in attending!


Mrs Johnston's 3rd grade class had the most students in attendance and has won a Root Beer Float party for the entire class!


A HUGE thank you to Angie McNeil & Maria Draeger for coordinating this event again this year!!!

First PTO Meeting

Thank you to all who attended our first PTO Meeting of the year!


Fundraising ideas, ways to help/ get involved, and our Fundraising Goals for 2018/19 were discussed. With the help of your feedback, the PTO Board has identified the


SBS MUSIC PROGRAM!


as the recipient of our fundraising efforts this school year! We are excited to partner with Ms Lauren Bolinski (Middle School English, Musical Theatre Advisor), Mr Nick Ktorides (Elementary School Music Teacher and Middle School Choir Director) & Mr Jon Lovas (Band Director) to raise money for new portable concert risers, wireless microphones, stage access stairs for the gymnasium side of the stage, and other enhancements that will improve the SBS musical performance experiences our families love so much!

Takeout Tuesdays!

In an effort to make the most out of the generous fundraising opportunities we have been given by several local restaurants who give SBS back a portion of their sales on a given day/night, and to simplify this growing category of fundraising for all of our busy families, we have condensed our monthly restaurant fundraiser nights at Culvers, Picnic Basket, Mod PIzza, and our latest addition of Kim's Gourmet Pizza Pub, into one joint effort called


TAKEOUT TUESDAYS!


Each month there will be 1-2 local restaurant fundraisers, each on Tuesday night/s.

First up, on


TUES., OCTOBER 9th, 5-8 pm, is CULVERS! (Hartland Location)

the flavor of the day will be Cookies & Cream


MONEY EARNED WILL GO TO HELP FUND OUR SBS MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL,

MARY POPPINS JR!


We strongly encourage all SBS families to take advantage of this chance to earn up to 20% back for our school by grabbing a quick dinner out- something many of us do anyway shuttling our students back and forth to sports, music lessons, scout meetings, etc. The money we raise at these events is an important part of our budget every year and allows us to fund field trips, curriculum enhancements, and teacher grants for the classroom items they need to help our kids excel.

Fall Book Fair

This Year's Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be held


Monday, October 22nd- Wednesday, October 24th

(with extended hours to cover Parent-Teacher conferences Wed evening)!


Book Fair is a great opportunity for kids to explore books they may be interested in reading, and to purchase them at a discounted price. It is also a great opportunity for our school to earn cash towards our fundraising goals, books for our classrooms & library, and to make a difference in schools within our region who do not have the resources we do to purchase books, via the Scholastic All For Books Coin Challenge.


Our Coin Challenge will run October 15th-19th (the week prior to the book fair). Students in the overall classroom who raises the most money in change will each get to choose a free a book (valued $7 or less)! Please watch for more information as the dates approach.


As always, in order to have the book fair remain open and run smoothly, we need volunteers. The flexible hours, varied time commitments/tasks, and excellent company make giving of your time fun and easy! Please take a moment to sign up using the link below.

PTO SPOTLIGHT

Each month, we like to take the opportunity to shine a "spotlight" on an individual, family, or staff/faculty member within our school community as a means to:


1. Get to know each other as our school continues to grow

and

2. Share some of the fantastic things happening "behind the scenes" to make SBS great!


This month, we'd like to introduce you to our resident "tech wizard"- the man helping our students and staff put your PTO smart projector donations to good use...

Mr. Dan Rodgers

Tell us a little about you/your family: I have a degree in computer networking along with several technical certifications. I have been doing I.T. work with public school districts now for 13 years. Started as a part time intern with Racine Unified School District and worked my way to one of two network administrators. I have been married for 18 years to my beautiful and wonderful wife Lisa. We have three children (Genevieve 12, Abigail 10 and Liam 6.) I also have another daughter Marisa who is 24 and just had her first child, so I'm a new grandpa as of April. We live in Racine which means I do drive up to Stone Bank and back home each day. My biggest hobby is BBQ and smoking meats. My specialties are pulled pork and baby back ribs :)


What is your role at SBS, and how long have you been here?

I am the DIrector of Technology here at Stone Bank since August of 2017. My primary role is to oversee what technology the district uses and help to make sure that students and staff are able to use it in the classroom. I also do ordering of printer toner, and various software. Among helping troubleshoot issues or concerns that come up.


What is your favorite thing about our school so far? You can just see how much our whole staff cares about the students. It shows in their interactions with the kids. How they talk and work with them.
