  • If At First You Don't Succeed...

For many, substitute teaching is the first time you are taking on a leadership role in the classroom. It's a position that is extremely rewarding but at times has its challenges. There will be days where you are filled with joy when you see a student grasp a topic they never understood before. There will also be days when 3:05 simply can't come quick enough. The video clip below shows the success and failures a boy has when creating a Rube Goldberg machine. At first he isn't successful but he doesn't get frustrated and give up. Instead, after each failed attempt he reflects on his work and makes necessary changes towards success. Your work as a substitute is very similar to this. You may run into some bumps and setbacks, but by reflecting on your work and making those positive changes, you will be more and more successful in the classroom. We challenge you to keep this positive growth mentality throughout your assignments. With November and December being short but busy months, we need every substitute to stay as active and committed as possible to the success of our students.

    Thanksgiving Break

This is a friendly reminder that the district will be closed the entire week of Thanksgiving. We hope that your break is spent with friends and family over large plates of delicious turkey and pumpkin pie! Regular classes will resume Monday, December 2, 2019 with just a quick four weeks of hard work before the first semester comes to an end.

    Proper Time Keeping Procedures

The Substitute Office would like to remind all substitute employees that it is district policy to clock in AND out at every campus assignment. This is to ensure that all proper information is rolling over to your time cards for office managers to properly complete for payroll. Please make sure you are accepting your assignments through Aesop, which will feed to the biometric clocks at all district campuses. Using the biometric clock, be sure to clock both in and out upon arriving and leaving your campus every day. While rare, if you are unable to clock in using the biometric clock, be sure to let your office manager know.

Reading and Writing Resources For The Classroom

Graphic Organizers are great to help our student scholars guide their thinking and build upon a visual map of topics during reading. Graphic Organizers can be used for social studies and mathematics as well. A great website to download free graphic organizers is http://freeology.com/graphicorgs/.

Read Works is an excellent website that provides reading passages to aid in building reading comprehension and also offers paired passages for comparative reading in like subject areas. It's also a great source for lessons and comprehension.
