Steps for Optimal Testing

SEND HOME TESTING DATES TO PARENTS

Be sure to send a letter or email home to parents of your actual test dates so that they don't schedule appointments or other obligations on those days. You may also want to send home the practice test link: https://login7.cloud1.tds.airast.org/student/V173/Pages/LoginShell.aspx?c=California_PT *No Login Required*

VERIFY STUDENT TEST ACOMMODATIONS

A week or 2 prior to testing, you will receive a paper from CAASPP Coordinator listing any students with accommodations. If there is an issue with any of the students listed, notify him/her immediately to fix this prior to testing.

CHECK THAT YOUR CAASPP LOGIN WORKS

Make sure that you have logged in to www.caaspp.org prior to actual testing to make sure your login actual works. I can't stress this enough!!! If it doesn't be sure to check the "forgot password" option to reset it. I would write this down inside your SBAC Folder on a post-it. Here is a link to the video how-to: https://goo.gl/n7KyGZ

ORGANIZE YOUR ID CARDS

Prior to testing, Grades 3 and 4 teachers will need to organize their ID cards in order of the way students sit in lab so Susan will know how to put out the cards on the day of testing. Grades 5 and 6 teachers, you may leave them in alphabetical order or arrange in the order of your preference since you are testing in your rooms on Chromebooks. * These cards are secure and must be locked up otherwise before and after testing. If you are testing in the lab, Susan will lock them up and if you are in your classroom, you may choose to lock them up inside your classroom or in the lab. However, ALL CARDS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE MAIN LAB WHEN ALL STUDENTS HAVE COMPLETED ALL TESTS IN THEIR ENTIRETY.

TRAINING TESTS/PRACTICE TESTS/INTERIM TESTS

All 3 of these types of tests are there to help prepare your students.

Training Tests: *Do NOT require a login* This test walks you through the tools and how to do the actual test. Susan is more than happy to do this with your class, just be sure to prearrange it with her prior to your lab time. You can also have her come out to your room to practice the tools on a Chromebook. Here is a link to the video how-to: https://goo.gl/NOaJgd

Practice Tests: *Do NOT require a login* You need to do the practice testing for both ELA and Math with Susan in the lab or on Chromebooks (5th and 6th grades) so you are familiar with the test *Let her know prior to arriving so she can set up the computers/Chromebooks. Here is a link to the video how-to *same as training link above: https://goo.gl/NOaJgd

INTERIM TESTS: *Require login from the CAASPP Website by a teacher* Interim Tests are extremely helpful in allowing students to become more comfortable with the test and are very similar to the actual test. You can schedule these during your lab time or using the Chromebooks. *Again, let Susan know ahead of time. Here is a link to the video how-to: https://goo.gl/3s7s9o

PRACTICE USING LANSCHOOL (grades 3-4) and CHROMEBOOK TESTING (grades 5-6)

NO MORE CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

These are now a thing of the past. YAY!!!!

SETTING UP A TEST SESSION

This is the same process as setting up an interim test, only you choose the SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT OPTIONS. Here is a link on how to set it up if you need a little more help: https://goo.gl/hWUPRi

BRING SILENT READING BOOKS TO TESTING

Make sure students all bring a longer book to read when done with the test. There will be no lingering in the library or other activities to do while testing. It was an issue last year.

VERBATIM TEST INSTRUCTIONS

Read aloud any of the instructions for your class or both grade level classes exactly as is.

TESTING ISSUES

Try resolving if you can yourself. If there are unresolvable issues or security breaches report to your CAASPP Coordinator IMMEDIATELY.

PRINT OUT A COPY OF THE TEST SESSION AND PUT IN THE SBAC BINDER

Print out a copy of the completed test session (each testing session) from the screen that has the progress of all your students taking the test.

RECORD ABSENCES ON TESTING DOC PAGE AND PUT IN SBAC BINDER

If you have any absences and students who will need to make up, please be sure to record it on your SBAC Testing Documentation page so we can keep track of make-ups.

HAVE EVERY STUDENT PUT THEIR NAME ON THEIR SCRATCH PAPER

This will ensure that every student's scratch paper is collected EVEN IF THEY WRITE NOTHING ON IT. Scratch paper that leaves the testing location is considered a breach and this will help avoid that.

SHRED ALL SCRATCH PAPER AT THE FINAL CULMINATION OF EACH TEST

Shred your scratch paper for your class ONCE ALL PARTS FOR EVERY STUDENT taking each test are complete. Until then, please keep it locked up in a safe place. For example, if students are still finishing up Part II of the Math Performance Task, wait to shred it until both parts are complete by EVERY STUDENT.
