Kindness Counts
District schools marked Week of Kindness last week. Students at School 1 worked to demonstrate what they did to be the "I" in kind. Charles Olbon School students created a kindness tree and also worked all week to spread kindness throughout the school. Beatrice Gilmore School is also doing the “I” Challenge. If a student is caught doing something extra kind - they get to be the “I” in kind. Their name and kind act are announced during morning announcements and their picture is taken as the “I.”

The students in Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Coffey’s PreK-4 class at School 1 are completing the Simple Machines Study. They have learned interesting facts about simple machines and can identify them. During a walk around the school, they found many simple machines. They drew pictures of the pulley on the flagpole, wheels and axles (tires on a car), screws that hold the tires on, and ramps (driveways and the slide).

Truth Tellers
First graders in Ms. Tonti’s class at Charles Olbon School celebrated George Washington’s birthday. The class read non-fiction books to learn real facts about the founding father of our country. The children were really intrigued by the facts but also enjoyed hearing some legends such as George chopping down his father’s cherry tree. In honor of telling the truth, the students made truth badges, “Like George Washington, I Cannot Tell a Lie.” The children proudly wore their badges and pledged to always tell the truth.
